As critical as I am of "consensus", it is partly to thank for preventing OWS from being "hijacked", which was attempted pretty much from the beginning by tools of the Democratic Party and ostensibly left-wing groups. (Although consensus isn't historically an anarchist method of decision-making).

I think that anarchists have played a role in making sure that the protests didn't devolve into "demanding" hollow reforms or the endorsement of political candidates, and that is certainly commendable. Anarchists represent an extremely tiny part of the population, though, it's the result of everyday people that OWS has had any sort of impact at all.

But there have been demands issued here and there, and in those cases the demand-making has had more impact.
