Oh no! The Magen-David is not a zionist symbol, it's a jewish symbol that has existed for about 3,000 years, the zionists just used it. And a yummaka is also a jewish cloth since alot before Zionism existed. They just use these symbols, it's like saying the cross is swiss because they have it on their flags.
No, both zionist and anti-zionist religious jews wear the yummaka and the Magen-David (maybe it's called "David Star", dunno). It's very logical that Latuff used them as plain jewish symbols.

I believe the Magen David was the sheild of King David, one of the first biblical kings of Israel.

Well, I appreciate the thought of "internationalizing Che, by localizing him" - I guess the meaning should be right despite the acronyms-
Yet, I don't see che wearing the Jewish kippa, since I happen to know some certain cultural circumstances you might missed them.
1. the kippa (little hat) is a ,mainly, used to symbolize the national-religious stream in Israel (Gush Emonim, mafdal, and yesha' council ). This stream is the one who is hatching Settlers; it is an ultra right wing stream. Therefore, I don't assume it would symbolize those brave human beings who come from Jewish families and stand against the Zionist oppression to the Palestinian people.
2. the sector which opposes occupation and Israeli militant aggression against Palestinians is mainly secular. from the ultra left wing groups. so I guess the traditional symbol didn't really localize che. on the contrary, it shows a contradiction.
3. I do recall the "Palestinian che" cartoon, and liked the kuffeyyah (Palestinian scarf ) on his shoulders, that's because "Kuffeyyah" is a heritage Item, it symbolizes Palestinian people, on the contrary o the "kippa" that would symbolize an ultra national -religious Jewish stream.
By the way, the Upper graphic is designed by me, the writing on it says the following
"the star within the blood won't glide -set
the flame within hearts is eagering to rise"
thanx, red eagle for publishing it in here :)

The kippa/yummaka symbolized the jewish religion much before settlements.
And if you can remember, one of the still strongest anti-zionist forces in the jewish world are the orthodox who say the messiah will not come if there will be Zionism.
And, for the first years of Israel, the national-religious were actually very leftists. Remember Leybovich's quote: "Whoever serves in the occupied territories is a judeanazi".

here's an email I got from Comrade Carlos Latuff
I belive it should help our discussion
Dear friend,
Thanks for your interesting comments.
I agree with your historical points enterely.
The "Jewish Che" is, in fact, just a tribute to progressive left-wing Jews.
Since in cartoons we need to work with some well-known signs, for majority of people, a man wearing a skull cap is a Jew, as well as someone with a scarf is an Arab. So, it was a way to mix, in a single, image of a famous left-wing revolutionary and symbols which may represent Jewish people. In spite of Israel being a teocracy and ruled by right-winger religious Jews, not all religious Jews are supporters of occupation. Mostly of them are, yes, but there are groups like JATO (Jews Against Occupation) and Neturei Karta (formed by orthodox Jews).
Anyway, I thank you very much for your attention and valid points.
Very best regards,
Latuff

and iam sorry comrade il Commie , that i didn`t beilive you about that darwing .
comrade latuff appear his idea by the e-mail wich post it my comrade geuvara_02
anyway , i still reject this idea , as i think the yummaka is a famous symbol for the zionist settler in this time , and that why i reject it .
