Two African street vendors were shot dead on Tuesday in Piazza Dalmazia in central Florence.
Witnesses saw the gunman arrive in a car and open fire on three Senegalese nationals, who were selling clothes in the square, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.

A man survived the incident and was taken to hospital in the Tuscan city, where his condition was described as serious.
The shooter was reported to be a 50-year-old Italian man named Gianluca Casseri, who escaped in a white car after the incident. He apparently attempted to kill himself after the shooting and was taken to the hospital, where he died, Corriere della Sera said. He allegedly belonged to the far-right Casa Pound movement.
Passers-by attempted to intervene in the shooting without success. The gun was said to be a .357 Magnum pistol.
As news of the shooting spread, members of the Senegalese community rushed to the scene, with some of them shouting angrily at the crowd. "Shame on you, racist," they cried.
"I heard the shots, but I thought they were fireworks," one market trader told the daily La Repubblica. "When I turned, I saw three men on the ground covered in blood."
Another trader said: "There are often young Senegalese who sell the usual merchandise. They do not bother anyone."
Surprised this hasn't been posted here yet. Same day as the damn Liege thing, a racist writer killed two & wounded three in Florence.

They're gaining momentum, and yet most people still turn a blind eye to fascism and claim its long been dead. R.I.P to all those who were murdered, and thoughts with those affected.

How influential is this Casa Pound movement over there? Are attacks like there recent phenomena or ongoing?

All I know is they have an "Italian-only" squat in 'china town' Rome. They don't seem to be influential (other neo-fascist and proto-fascist organisations on the other hand).

they have a very good infrastructure, their leader is an a very popular band so they make quite a lot of cash, their studentwing is very well organized and trained and as such are way more influential than one would think based on their membership numbers and they are pretty successful in hiding their nazi fetishes.
they do seem a bit on the decline but they are still a force to be reckoned with

How are they a “force to be reckoned with” ? how are they a force and how are they to be reckoned with?

Casa Pound claim to be anti-racist. There have been a lot of neo-fascist groups claiming this though.
They want to re-imagine fascism,

Fascists are attempting, poorly, to adapt the times by trying to abandon or slight outright racism due to its lack of reception within the public sphere. While it will snag some youths into its snare they won't stay long when they see the obvious fracture between what the organization says and what it actually does. I know this new brand of fascism snagged me when I was unemployed and suffering a rather serious bout of depression it didn't last long as I asked unwelcome questions and ran into the constant use of Nazism in positive ways.
Casa Pound like various other Neo-Fascist organizations won't last as they can't explain away their dual character and lies. They will gather young and angry youths but once they start asking questions about class or race it quickly degenerates from there. Either they drink the kool-aid or get the fuck out of Dodge.

I think tfb was actually making a rather funny allusion to Ninja Turtles (those four were the characters).

The guy with the green hoodie and the guy with the helmet made me think of turtles, they have stances and weapons like the Ninja Turtles, the smoke at the back looks like steam coming out of a sewer, and I'm guessing their names are Italian. Things just seemed to line up nicely for a Ninja Turtles joke. I also wanted to make fun of these people. I don't have anything against Italians in general and I don't think that the Ninja Turtles have anything to do with Italy beyond their names (and I guess that they like pizza, an Italian food, but everyone likes pizza). It's hard to tell whether a joke will be taken as reactionary, and I realize I didn't give much indication that it wasn't the intention (since all I did was list 4 names).

I didn't mean to stir the thread but american "comedy" shows -south park, family guy etc..- are usually racist stereotype shit always ridiculing and putting everything that's not from NYC down or LA down.

From the libertarian to the liberal perspective, in their trying to poke fun at racial steretypes, they come off as the most racist of all.
For instance, the whole "white guy dancing to rap" thing has not only worn out it's welcome but at this point seems more like a way for some white people to vent out their frustration at black hip hop culture. I mean by this era it should be known by now that white people are just as influential on rap music as anyone.
That shit just ain't funny anymore. I really think that people like Seth McFarlane are just venting their frustration at ethnic people through humor. He really seems like a bit of an elitist prick and tends to equate class with race, like all liberals.

Racism in Italy is big trouble. In the north the racist argument is monopolized by the Northern League, its leader Bossi wrote the infamous immigration-law that still is applied today.
Violence against immigrants is not daily-business but sometimes happens, especially against rom and other "nomadic groupos" (peoples from Romania are usually referred as nomadic, although they have been living in the same place for 20 years...).
Casa Pound has some significant presence only in Rome, where it is closely linked with the center-right administration (led by Alemanno, formerly member of the neofascist Movimento Sociale Italiano). The squat in Rome have been recently bought by the township administration and legally assigned to Casa Pound "for social purposes".
They have been trying to take some roots in high schools and university, but gained bad results in the elections for student rapresentatives. Again, only in Rome they have some significant strenght in high schools. The ninja-turtles photo is taken off a clash between Casa Pound and leftist students.
Outside Rome neofascist organizations have some little presence in southern Italy. In elections they win something like 1-1,5% of the votes. Of course they are not politically dangerous as the french National Front could be, they are dangerous because they spread racism and other shit like that.
