View Full Version : 4 Hours in Paris - What to see?

Just a shot in the dark, but does anyone have any ideas on what I should do/see in Paris next week, I have about 4 hours to kill there as it's just a connection on my journey (so queuing for the Louvre etc. is out of the question).
I have factored in journey time to the train station afterwards - I've given myself an hour and the Metro is regular so that isn't a problem. But I have time in the afternoon to maybe see one or two things, preferably that are close together so I can just walk between them. So any thoughts? Places of lefist historical significance or just of general interest? I would prefer free or cheap things tbh. :)

They're not free anyway. And it would take about 15 hours to see everything in the Louvre if you really were planning too. Eiffel Tower is pretty cool on top though. Check out the traffic around the Arc de Triomphe. It's fucking crazy.

Catacombs for sure anything else and the waiting lines will take up your 4 hours.

What is this 'Eiffel Tower' of which you speak..?
The intention of my post was to hear about the less-obvious places I might not have thought of. I'm not all that bothered about the tower to be honest, and 'museums' is somewhat vague, no doubt there are hundreds in Paris. Also, I don't want to spend time queuing.

Yeah I was reading about this earlier, sounds pretty cool. Also it would fit in nicely with a visit to the catacombs

Great idea! I went in some catacombs in Malta once, really incredible place. I just looked at the Parisian catacombs website and it's only 4 Euros and takes an hour and twenty minutes, so it's definitely an option, especially if it's raining. On the other hand, they only allow in 200 visitors per day and I'd be arriving quite late so not sure I'd get in...

Il ya très peu de la Bastille il ya maintenant! Mais je considérais une visite au Quartier Latin pour obtenir un déjeuner ;)

Eiffel Tower is amazing! Take an old camera and attach it to your wrist lean slightly over and take a picture it's amazing! Go to an old market too! The markets are 'ze' best!

Hmm, you could, depending on where you're getting your train to, start at the Champ de Mars and see the tower, take a walk up to the Arc de Triomphe (or get the metro but you'll miss walking over the river) then have a stroll around the Bois de Boulogne (hope I spelt that right) or go the other way and look at the Louvre, pay 15 euros and run in to look at the Mona Lisa and run back out. Actually, that sounds kinda boring. I have no idea what one could do in paris for four hours. :(

Scary, man. I couldn't do that. I spent most of the time with a death grip on all the solid objects that were in reach.

It was an eventful schooltrip! I wouldn't do that without friends! I was sweating like mad and almost dropped it! I had to catch it in mid-air!
VERY EVENTFUL SCHOOLTRIP!

I've been in France for four months now, I've had my fair share of markets and grenier vides ("car boot sales" in England) - I want to see something that is more unique to Paris really. I imagine the view from the tower is nice, but I will probably go back to Paris some other time anyway, so I will see all that kinda stuff the next time round when I have longer to spare.

Yeah I'm thinking if it's a nice enough day, I'd probably rather spend it walking about than visiting museums and such, as I enjoy just being in a city, people-watching and looking at the architecture etc. I will look on the map and see how those places are for Metro transport and so on. The Louvre is definitely not an option, the queue will be huge and if I go there I'd rather spend a few hours rather than rushing around. Also - and no doubt I sound like a philistine to some here - I have no interest at all in the Mona Lisa. It's a tiny, cracked painting that I've seen a thousand times online, TV, magazines and so on, I'd rather check out the paintings that are unfamiliar to me.

I never got turned away at the Catacombs, I think there is no such thing as a solid rule in France

Bonne idée, le quartier latin a bistros très bonne et c'est près le jardin du Luxembourg aussi. Est-ce que vous savez le jardin du Luxembourg? C'est très beau! Vous devez y aller! mdr
