What is the update on this bill? I received a call at the crack of dawn by my gf's father that the US is doomed and we'll all be in FEMA camps by next year because of this damn bill.
I took a look at it and it seems pretty frightening stuff but I highly doubt it will make it pass the Senate.
Obama will most likely veto in order to look like he saved America, no doubt.
Any word?

Also the amendment that removes the martial law style language failed by an annoyingly large majority.

From what it seems like anarchist might be viewed a minor threat, but over all this bill will be used primarily against mainly muslims and arabs until we become a major threat.

Yeah you are if you are in the FRSO-FB and do anti-war and solidarity organizing in the midwest.
basically since 'supporting terrorism' is such a broad term, opposing war could be turned into supporting terrorism.
theories like revolutionary defeatism could be targeted.

Even besides that there is still the worrisome tendency of military manuals treating protests as low scale terrorism. It didn't take much in Canada to be on the RCMP blacklist. And of course US immigration still cares about whether or not you're a communist, which means that we may not be thought of as a threat publicly but it's still hanging in there.

Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., pointed to the case of an Oregon lawyer who was jailed in connection with 2004 bombings in Madrid, but later released after the FBI conceded fingerprint evidence was wrong.
If the man, who was awarded $2 million in damages, had been detained by the military he might have been held without the ability to clear himself, Merkley said.
