The endpoint of the ancient Mayan calendar. Some interpret it to signify the end of the world, though there's no evidence the Maya believed this. (Abanes p. 342)

The last words anyone will ever speak will be "I told you so!". Probably as the Sun engulfs the Earth in about five billion years.
(That is if we don't find another planet elsewhere by that time).

i've often thought about the possibility that they might dig me up in a million years, then come to some pretty radical conclusions and, in the absence of comparitive evidence, declare my remains to be broadly representative of our present age. what a hilarious notion.... if those of you that give a toss could see the temple, namely me, you would understand how silly it'd be. i'm far from an ideal speciman.... (you need only ask youngblood cossack)

I think there are "dark ages" in history, and the beginnings of these often do bring apocalyptic thought to prevailing cultures due to feelings of collective anxiety, besides the most known one; the fall of the Roman Empire, another well known one is referred to often as the "Greek Dark Ages" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_Dark_Ages.
Of course these days, if there ever was any kind of major collapse of global infrastructure for a prolonged period of time the effects would be, without question, qualitatively more sharp - maybe like "Escape from LA".
