it seems like it is anti-religion, well at least anti-catholic anyways... its a pretty cool game, it shows great historical knowledge and sort of mixes it within the assassins creed universe.. plus it mixes historical and sci-fi stuff, secret cults, organizations, artifacts etc.

the backstory is that these people "The Ones Who Came Before" were an ancient race (not aliens).. it is sort of based off the "Chariot of the Gods" stuff, interesting book nonetheless) so "The Ones Who Came Before" shortened as TWCB created Humans, they created Humanity to be slaves, and used these items called the Piece of Edens to control them. well finally 2 humans rebelled and stole one of the peices of eden.. there names "Adam and Eve" interesting.. and that set off a major war between the TWCB and Humans.. TWCB had technology, Humans had numbers.. the war was fought long and hard, until a solar flair destroyed most of the civilized life, the Solar flair was caught off guard, and killed almost all life, TWCB and Humans.... there were some TWCB and Humans who surived, and decided to rebuilt, ending the war, the TWCB and Humans (some) procreate with each other, causing "Hybrids".. which then leads into the Templars vs. Assassins

eventually after rebuilding two organizations appeared and they have fought a secret war for a millineum. The Templars and The Assassins

they both strive for one goal= Peace... but by different means

Templars want peace by full-out control

Assassins want peace by the surivial of Human "free will"

which then leads into the modern story of Desmond Miles, Altair, Ezio etc. etc..... i will add more if you like, but i just wanted to give you a little backstory

This game seems to be based off from a bad dose of conspiracy theories and pseudoarcheological/historical/scientific ancient astronaut theories (which seems to be very reminiscent of Zechariah Sitchin's theories).

Yeah, it's pseudoscientific bullshit- but I'd say it's better bullshit than games based on 'modern warfare'. If they made a perfectly realistic, hard historical game set in the middle ages/renaissance, it would be approximately the most boring game in the world. The Templar/assassin stuff mixes things up to actually make an interesting story. I really like the game's execution- the absolute free-roaming aspect, as well as the well-articulated setting make it feel like I'm parkouring through a painting.

Wow, I never thought I'd let my videogame fanboyism come through on this forum.

I stopped playing after Brotherhood. I think the story's dragged for too long, and really nothing interestingly new has happened. Hopefully we'll finally get to the modern age and fight the Templars in the modern world once and for all.

This series is among my favorite. This and Mass Effect actually. The Revelations story was surprisingly fun despite the fact that the story has been going on awhile. It ended the stories perfectly.

Fantasy gaming needs better writing... it doesn't need to be more "realistic"

as is pretty obvious, as stupid as games are there are people who take their ideological content seriously.

it's really difficult to get any level of depth psychologically when structurally most adventure games are just a guy running around killing stuff. most especially when you're trying to add an element of "realism." i'd go with absurdism and attempt profundity through comedy. All the writing for these shooter games are really unforgivable. people who write for games like call of duty, cs, halo, etc, ought to be the first to be gulaged when we take power.
