What is so ethical about tar sand oil? Absolutely nothing. Of course Oprah would air a commercial about ethical oil (saw this earlier on rabble)..

I was listening to an interview with a woman from some "ethical oil" institute on the Current on CBC radio yesterday. Anna Maria Tremonte basically destroyed her argument by noting that it's oil companies that produce oil, and that oil companies based in "ethical" countries do terribly unethical things in other countries. It was nice hearing how such a simple argument could make the ethical oil supporter squirm. Here's a link to the podcast:

Basically its a PR move, nothing more, nothing less.
In a nutshell, our oil is better beccause the brown people in the middle east are horrible baby eaters.
Nevermind Our Ipod and Iphone are made by chinese slave labour working 60 hours a week, nevermind the fact that one of the most precious material in the composition of Iphone electronics are extracted by bloodthristy congolese warlord who pillage, kill and rape everyone.
Basically, its ok to blame the middle east and africa for their dubious ethical standard when we can make money from it. the rest of the time, its not really irrelevant, or at least not until we make our own electronics.

Canada just said Fuck off to Kyoto. Even if ethical oil exploitation is possible, our leader won't try to exploit ethically our tar sand, since they just don't give a shit about environment.
