I'm wondering what you guys think of communities that don't use national currency.
It's seems pretty interesting, although I'm not exactly sure how it would work out.
I don't know whether any of you are fimiliar with it, so i'll explain..
Basically, it's a system where you do favours and get favours in return...
They have their own currency (it's different depending on which system you use). But the currency is not as sacred as dollars, pounds, ect. because needless to say, it's not the economy-driven society of today.
To recieve needs and wants in return, you'll do things for other people in the community like special skills you know or want to learn or by giving away (or trading) things you don't need. Upon joining, they give you a list of contacts so you can trade, buy and sell your services/goods. The difference between this and the current system, (other than its obvious differences), is that this is more equal and fair, and doesn't involve exploitation.
From what I gather, the quality of life, in terms of material items and services you recieve remains pretty much the same as it would under most national economic systems.
There are a lot of different systems,
I think the best one is one is LETS (http://www.lets-linkup.com) (Local Economic Trading System)
Does anyone use this kind of system?
Is it a good idea?
