Hi,
I'm trying to create a Leftist News aggregator. I have the site set up, I just need to add a crap load of news sources from the left.
I saw on another post someone posted the list of left-wing publications of the UK. I need a list like this, but divided into tendency, because I would like my news aggegator to have tendency categories as well as categories for world, science and technology, local stuff etc. But the three main tendency categories would be trot, ml, mlm and anarchism unless people think there should be others.
So anyway, I'm not going to unveil anything just yet, since it's just a shell website for now. But if I could get help compiling the list of leftist news sites, I would much appreciate it.
Thank you!
Caj

Sounds cool.
As for tendencies, you should also include left communists.

I would love to see Leftist Art section in UK. So we would know what films, plays or art galleries to attend. :)

That's a good idea. Right now, though, I'm just trying to get it to work. I don't even know if I could pull off a local feed, since it would require some scripting I'm not sure I could do. But I will certainly give it a shot when the time comes.
At this point, I need sources, sources, sources.
I've got
socialistworker.org - trotskyist
anarchistnews.org - anarchist
the militant - not sure
www.wsws.org (http://www.wsws.org) - trotskyist
libcom.org - anarchist
http://ft-ci.org/ (http://www.anonym.to/?http://ft-ci.org/) Latin American Trotskyist, in Spanish
http://www.ft-ci.org/?lang=en (http://www.anonym.to/?http://www.ft-ci.org/?lang=en) Latin American Trotskyist, in English
http://www.pslweb.org/liberationnews/ (http://www.anonym.to/?http://www.pslweb.org/liberationnews/)
http://www.workers.org/

Here are a few:
http://ft-ci.org/ Latin American Trotskyist, in Spanish
http://www.ft-ci.org/?lang=en Latin American Trotskyist, in English
There are also Portuguese, Italian, German, and French news pages, from the same tendency. The URLs can be accessed through the first source above, or I would be happy to send them to you, if you are going to include foreign language news. If not, that's fine too.
Hope this is helpful.
With regards, eyeheartlenin

That's a good question! The "Leftist Parties of the World" site (broadleft.org), which is very informative, lists the SWP under "Trotskyist Parties and Organizations," but as the "Socialist Workers Party Tendency," which makes the SWP sui generis.
The WWP is listed on the "Leftist Parties of the World" chart for the US (http://broadleft.org/us.htm) as "ex-Trotskyist, radical left," which seems fair, but raises the question of why the SWP doesn't qualify as "ex-Trotskyist," since part of what Barnes did, after he took over, was to expel a large number of veteran Trotskyists from the SWP, in 1984, including James Kutcher, the legless veteran from World War 2, a longtime SWP supporter.

Yes, these will come in handy. What was the last leftist news aggregator? If one exists, I'd like to know about it (that is besides r/ socialism or whatever).

Hm...perhaps I'd have to put an "other" category and include these two in that one.

Oh yeah, I remember that!
So anyway, here's what I have so far. Haven't really been working on this tbh.
http://r-a-n-a-net.blogspot.com/
So what I need is to add a few more columns and also more sources into the aggregator script. Further on, I could divide up blocks and columns intro things like tendencies, science, world and even a local section that could determine your whereabouts based on IP.
It's an ambitious project to say the least.

So here is the new url on account that I forgot the old one.
http://rananets.blogspot.com/
Added the columns and some more sources, but all the columns list the same articles :/ so what I need to do is figure out a way to randomize all the articles or easier, just go to subsections: World, Sports, Science etc.
That would be easier but requires mass amounts of work, as I have to go to each source and find the url to the feed that has the catgeory. Unfortunately, I don't think all sources even have categories, and some don't have rss in the first place. Sadly, I'm just going to have to leave them out.
I would welcome suggestions, advice, critques etc on what I have so far...
EDIT: Just made column groups by tendency...I know you want to use my news aggregator...

I checked this the other day. Nice to to see this still going, although I think there is room for refinement and improvement.

Yeah, I might try to resurrect this thing. Although, it would probably have to be completely revamped. This was more of a proof of concept, generally involving use of web technologies like rss to compile and organize information available on the web.
Lately, I've been interested in developing other applications of these concepts. For example, there is a google tool that allows you to view copious amounts of user information maintained across several resources, concerning a particular individual's activities online, cross referencing sources, and things like that. Mostly, these are used by hiring agencies, but they could be applied to other areas as well...
