I need to find out some information for someone about labor laws and such in the UK, are there any organizations which can help out with advice and such? There seems to have been a few incidents in the place of employment, which is making him concerned about what could happen to him.

I was thinking about unions but, i haven't been in the UK long so i don't know about all that stuff here. All i know that its not a union shop where he works. I haven't been in a union so don't know much how they work.

The company told another employee (which they just fired) that after 14 days after getting his contract (written form) that the contract is automatically signed, even if you haven't signed it. I'm thinking this can't be right, and they're trying to BS their way.

He wants help before he signs his contract, because he wanted to raise some issues with it, but now not sure what could happen if he did.

I'm not really qualified to give you a good answer here but I would say that whatever your politics are libcom (http://libcom.org/) is a very good place to ask. Most people there seem to be workers based in the UK and are generally knowledgeable of employment law.
