Are LGBT rights as important as movements for racial or ethnic-based civil rights? Are they based on inequitable class ownership of the means of production? For example, is there systematic labor market discrimination against LGBT people of similar magnitude as that against ethnic minorities?
With Google Books, I just found Sexual orientation discrimination: an international perspective (http://books.google.com/books?hl=en&lr=&id=bjESv6VYi58C). What do you think, though?

Gender, sexuality, ethnicity - it's all the same in my opinion.

Queer rights are a necessary for any healthy-and especially socialist-society.Without said rights you still have the heterosexist,and hence chauvinist,system in place.

The revolution is not merely an economic, but a social revolution too. Fighting for the rights of all those discriminated against is equally important.

A workerist society cannot function while bigotry exists. With that said, many institutions currently oppress LGBTQ citizens and the result of this is widespread homophobia and bigotry.
It's normal to be homophobic in today's society.

One arguement that anti-LGBT people say to me is this;
"Why should we focus on gay marriage and such when theres bigger problems in the world like women in Middle Eastern countries having their rights stripped from them or 3rd world countries in poverty!!"
My response is this;
"How the hell can we help the rest of the world with their civil rights problems if we can't even help our own people with the same problems?!"

It is funny that they say that because more often than not they are the ones responsible for those middle eastern and third world people's rights being trampled (conservative polices and the like).
