Guardian video on the English riots

Interesting video from The Guardian, summarising their research into the riots. They seem to do a good job of stressing the political aspects of the riots, drawing on interviews with participants, some of which are included in the video.

Oh wow that looks quite interesting. I can't wait to see the whole thing.

One really interesting thing (besides the great project that this whole thing is) I noticed in the video is that they mentioned gangs actually had a truce during these riots while being accused of the ones starting them due to their violence. This is similar to what happened in the LA riots of the early 90s.

The Guardian and the LSE have done a good job trying to show that this wasn't based on greed and opportunity, and that it was genuinely a burst of the frustration that has bubbled. I listened to a brief interview with a black south Londoner who explained his frustration with how things are currently. Should be a good watch.

Also to add to this, there was research (http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/official-cabinet-ministers-wrong-about-cause-of-riots-2375515.html) done a few weeks back which showed the vast majority of the rioters were acting alone, so it wasn't down to this "gang culture" like we heard Cameron claiming
