Nearly 10,000 Lord of the Rings fans have signed an online petition demanding Christopher Lee be reinstated in the final part of the trilogy.

It comes after the actor revealed he would be boycotting the premiere because his scenes as evil wizard Saruman had been cut from Return of the King.

The online petition makes the case for the seven minutes of footage to be reinstated in the final part of the trilogy.

It features a battle between Saruman and Gandalf, played by Sir Ian McKellen, and was the climax of a war between the two wizards.

Petition organiser Matt Shuster said he was a "huge fan" of the Lord of the Rings films but felt the loss of Lee's scenes was a bad decision by director Peter Jackson.

He complains that the axed scene is only seven minutes long and is an important part of the plot.

And he says the fact that it will be reinstated in the extended DVD version means that the cinema version will seem incomplete.

Mr Shuster said: "This is a bad decision that needlessly alienates the hardcore fans of the series and puts a blemish on an otherwise superb film."

Christopher Lee be reinstated in the final part of the trilogy.

This could turn out to be a shocking decision from Jackson. I mean, he has totally shelved the only genuinely EVIL character that has a part to play in the plot. Oh yeah, and if it's not good enough for the movie, why the hell would he put it on the DVD. Peter Jackson pandering to the masses, oh dear.

the movie is 4 HOURS LONG PJ thought the scene of Saurmon being impaled at the begining of the movie and the 7 1/2 min that go with it were unnessary for it. And both other movies have almost over an hour of extra footage combined, these do bring more of the book to the screen but are unnessary for theatrical releases, most of the time you cant even notice the extra and extended scenes. plus dont worry too much about the missing scenes of Saurmon you still got those badass battle scene with over a hundred thousand characters and lots of bad guys as Sauron brings out all the bad guys in one final battle with all of Middle Earth. Just wait for the damn DVD next year to see Christopher Lee in the movie. It will still be a badass movie regardless.

I do agree with the last part, I still expect it to kick ass.

How can the cinema version seem "incomplete" when there was never a Gandalf Vs. Saruman Burly Brawl in the book? I don't think most fans of the books would give a damn about missing a 'ficticious' fight scene because it never happened in the literary version anyway.

I'm more concerned about how Peter Jackson is going to flesh out the scouring of the Shire, the journey to the Grey Havens and all the other stuff that happens in the latter part of the book.

The fight is at the end of Two Towers apparently, I admit to not having read the last two books.

No, it's not.

Figuratively, Gandalf tells off Saruman and locks him up in Orthanc. Treebeard promises to keep an eye on Saruman, but eventually let's him go, and Saruman & Wormtongue end up in the Shire, where they are eventually confronted by the Hobbits after they return from Rivendell after seeing Bilbo.

So there.

Christopher Lee is a Tolkien encyclopedia I would think he would be glad that that part was cut, he'll still get paid for his part in the movies.

I've heard he's being re-instated, don't know whether that is accurate or not.

im afraid youre wrong if you listen to the commentaries of the cast and dirctor and writters on both of the movies you'll see no mention of Chris Lee looking like Osama i dont see it one bit. He was in a big deal of the first film released in 2001 so why would they cut him out of the third film because of that? He was cut out because his scene was unnessary for the filming

Now, personally, I can't see the difference. Sure, Osama may be a little more tanned, but what the hell...
