I for one, hate the computer and specifically computer games.

They have been the sole reason my life went from good to shit and is pretty much the only thing holding me back from having a good fulfilling social life with lots of good friends. I hate the addictingness of it and the internet.

I hate phones. I hate the fact people can get in touch with me whenever they feel like it, usually when I'm driving or eating my dinner. And when I'd rather not be disturbed, my brain decides to feel guilty about turning it off or letting it ring.

I also hate cars as they've made me fat, lazy and broke, had to get a licence though since I lived in a rural area with no public transport and cycling 40 miles to College every day was out of the question. Now i'm a slave to the automobile.

You know what's funny? I'm actually the exact opposite of you. Almost literally. I actually WANT people to get in touch with me since they almost never do anymore due to me always ignoring them because of the fucking computer.

Also I want a car so bad. I want the freedom of going places fast and easy. I don't skate or cycle anywhere because I have a bad sweating problem and i would just get sweaty from that and I don't walk because its too far and too time consuming.

My friend told me I have Stockholm Syndrome for Adobe Illustrator. I think he's probably right. All of this technology tortures me, betrays me, destroys everything I worked to create... yet I love it. If I didn't have my computer I would be a shitty artist (arguably, I'm still a shitty artist :laugh:) . But just... the beautiful way that it lets me manipulate ALL the lines and have ALL the power is great... until I realize that the power was never really mine and I'm at the mercy of my computer's will. :crying:

Things like online videos, porn, computer games, etc are based upon graphical user interfaces which only really arose in the past ~20 years or so. The way I maintain my productivity then is to reject using graphics and use my computer as a command line interface with emacs (http://www.gnu.org/s/emacs/) like here:

This allows me to maintain complete productivity because there aren't any of those graphical distractions you mentioned. In these conditions I can produce thousands of lines of (Lisp) code a day unhampered.

I don't own a cellphone, I rarely watch TV, and on the computer I'm either on here, talking to friends, school work, or watching videos.

But I'm a slave to my Xbox and gaming. Marx said religion was the opiate of the masses, well my gaming habits are mine. I'll stay up all night playing, getting caught up in a false reality, earning achievements and setting goals for myself in a reality that has no relevance to the real world, and in the end I've done nothing but fed my addiction.

Once I boxed up my Xbox for an entire month, willingly. That was the best month of my life. I took up a few DIY projects, got ahead in my school work, I felt so much better. Then I was bored one day and got it out of the box. Worst decisions ever.

Nah, I have tons of porn, after all what else is there to use the massive amounts of memory we have available on today's hard drives for? Nonetheless, I want to get some work done and not just play games and watch tv & porn all day.

Booting into text mode helps me do that. It also just so happens that all the graphical / visual tools we have today suck (thanks to Microfuck and Applesuck) so they don't increase my productivity at all anyways, I can write programs and get everything done just as well in a text editor.
