View Full Version : EU banning cosmetic animal testing

I found out today that the EU is moving to ban cosmetic testing on animals, this is great news, however there are problems, France is trying to get rid of the ban, because L'Oreal, who test on animals, contribute significantly to the French economy.
In any case the ban will take about six years to fully implement so that means that it's still not safe to buy a long list of products (see Corporate Blacklist for details).
Also see this Guardian article (http://www.guardian.co.uk/animalrights/story/0,11917,1021527,00.html)for more.

Vivisection should be banned, unconditionally.
Its about time we stopped harming animals for own own greed. Who needs crap like make-up, apart from vain women?
Animals are our equals and our friends. They are not in existence to be exploited and abused by humanity.

YEAH!!!!
Its about freaking time. However, i do have to say that it is a lot easier to find vegan health and beauty items in europe. You can walk into any store and find animal friendly products, whereas in the us you really have to search or go to a speciality store. When i go to spain i come home loaded with vegan h & b items.
PETA has a list of companies that do and do not test on animals or use animal bi-products, so check it out if you are interested in animal friendly products.
Some companies you want to avoid- Procter and Gamble and Gillette (they skin animals to test blades). They really are the worst, in my opinion.

Animals are our equals...
Can you explain this? I mean, naturally, animals do not have the ability to think, care for, or befriend (except for the extremely domesticated animals such as dogs and cats, and not even they can).
Animals are there for us to eat.

where the hell do you get your information? animals can think, care, and befriend others. my goodness where the hell have you been? there is so much research out there that shows what animals can do and how they live...
like i said before in another thread, many humans are stupid, ugly, uncaring, and aggressive but that doesnt mean i have the right to kill them or test products on them just because they are any of these things....

i think we should barbecue you just for saying that. if you have no regard for animals, you probably have less regard than you think for people. animals mourn. animals play. animals miss their close companions when they go away. animals learn to respond to stimuli. they do everything we do. they just don't go fucking up the world and writing all other species off as stupid, soul-less creatures and exploiting them for their own petty purposes such as luscious lashes or vivid red lips or smooth sexy legs. and we're so fucking smart we can find other alternatives.
you're just like ann fucking coulter. "god said 'here is the earth. take it, rape it. it's yours.'"

Animals are stupid. It's not my fault that liberal green Peta people like yourself keep these animals and treat them as if they were children. They are not. I find it disgusting that some people in North America and the West treat stupid dogs and cats and all those other animals better than humans get treated in most other countries of the world. Being so ridiculously compassionate to animals is petty-bourgeois as is veganism/vegetarianism.
Seriously, it's so god damn annoying that people domesticate animals that are supposed to be out in the wild when there's so many little kids out there that need a fucking home.
Also, there have been cases when animals "write" other species off.
People are far more important than animals. Really, I agree we should kill these animals in a humane way and not torture them or beat them, but I still want to eat them. Why don't you leave meat eaters like me alone and keep your animal rights bs to yourself? I believe animals such as rats and gerbils should be experimented on. If not, who do you want to experiment on? People?

Animals are stupid.
likewise i'm sure
It's not my fault that liberal green Peta people like yourself keep these animals and treat them as if they were children. They are not.
we don't treat them as children. we treat them as companions and fellow passengers through life.
I find it disgusting that some people in North America and the West treat stupid dogs and cats and all those other animals better than humans get treated in most other countries of the world.
if that's true then why does the ASPCA exist? hell, it couldn't be for those abused and neglected animals all over the place, could it? and that really has nothing to do with it anyway. it shows you how selfishly "philanthropic" people choose to live their lives. it doesn't mean animals deserve to be treated less compassionately than humans. anyway, it's not like countries with poor civil rights treat their animals better than their people (except for maybe india, but cows are sacred there). western countries do it because they can afford to.
Being so ridiculously compassionate to animals is petty-bourgeois as is veganism/vegetarianism.
negative. if we didn't waste so many goddamn acres of veggies on feeding our massively-bred population of animals intended for meat and adhered to a vegetarian diet, that would cut out the demand for meat around the globe and people wouldn't breed their cows as much, therefore less cows would have to eat and there would be enough food for everyone to be FAT.
Seriously, it's so god damn annoying that people domesticate animals that are supposed to be out in the wild when there's so many little kids out there that need a fucking home.
while that's very sad indeed, some people are incapable of taking care of children. and you don't want to put a child with someone who would treat it like a bunny and leave it out in a hut all year round and feed it celery.
Also, there have been cases when animals "write" other species off.
i can't think of many that come to mind right now that were completely natural and not due to change in climate or freak storms carrying animals hundreds of miles away from their origin.
People are far more important than animals.
every species thinks they're more important than the others.
Really, I agree we should kill these animals in a humane way and not torture them or beat them, but I still want to eat them.
indiscriminately? you sick *****.....
Why don't you leave meat eaters like me alone and keep your animal rights bs to yourself?
read up on what goes into your meat. or what happens to your meat before it goes on your plate and slides down your greedy esophagus. sounds like fucking "i-don't-want-you-to-challenge-any-of-my-opinions-so-please-allow-me-to-exist-in-blissful-oblivion" fascism to me....
I believe animals such as rats and gerbils should be experimented on.
we, as supreme rulers of the earth justifiably deem it so on the grounds that we CAN!
If not, who do you want to experiment on? People?
i don't want anything i use to be suspiciously unsafe enough that it has to be tested on a being whom we can get away with being more than a bit inhumane to in the name of science. if the product is potentially that dangerous, do we really want to use it ourselves anyway?
anyhow, this thread is about cosmetics testing. do you truly believe that animals should be allowed to suffer greatly for your vanity?

Yay, respect Arnold's authorotah!
It's like this; a "simple" animal can indeed think, thus it don't realize it does. That's pretty much where the animal-human border is drawn. It's still not natural or very healthy for a normal human being to eat meat.

You know what Bolshevika- fuck you man. Dont come and tell me to keep my fucking animal rights shit to myself, when every day of my life i have to constantly deal with meat based diets and animal killing products shoved in my face, as well as people's criticism. Im driving the highway and what do i see- about a billion billboards advertising for mcdonalds and burger king. If im watching tv or reading a magazine there are like a hundred ads for milk and beef. At the daycare everyday i had to look at those "Got Milk" posters. If im hungry, i have to go completely out of my way to find a place that will serve me food without giving me nasty looks or telling me that they wont serve me at all. My university, my university doesnt serve any vegan food or very little vegetarian food, which is why i commute (im not gonna pay to eat at a cafeteria that i can eat at). I go to a grocery store and i have to smell the horrible stench of meat coming from the deli- makes me puke almost every time. I have to go to a clothing store to buy new boots, i have to deal with the fact that they only make leather boots and sneakers, which leads to me shopping around all day and then finally spending more money than i have to to have boots made. I also have to deal with the smell of people wearing leather jackets in class- which seriously makes me sick. Same with beauty products- i need to go to a speciality store so i can find vegan/animal friendly stuff. Ive also always had to deal with people making fun of me for what i eat and how i live, it was constant teasing. Now you tell me who is constantly shoving whos beliefs on another. This to you is not a big deal to you because you believe in these things, but these are really powerful images or whatever that are being shoved on me everyday.
Im just telling you what i believe, im not telling you that you have to believe it.

i'm feeling you, laura. people are really fucking insensitive. and what hurts is when they're insensitive about stuff you do which is intended specifically to reduce hurt in the world.
once going down the hall to AP english one of my "friends" this gay little guy named mike comes up to me and says "guess what?" and i say "what?" "i had a huge hamburger at lunch today. with bacon." i called him a little sodomizing hawaiian queer very loudly. i'm not going to fucking make him feel good about being a homosexual (particularly since i'm one of the few people in school who is accepting of him) if he's not going respect my beliefs. it shut him up quite quicky though.
on another occasion i was at a party at some house and one of my guy friends brought me a hunting magazine and said "i was reading this on the john, it's really something." hah. funny thing is, i was the one who drove him to the party. even funnier thing is, i wasn't the one who drove him home.
so really, don't fuck with me.....
and don't fuck with laura either. because she's a beautiful person and doesn't deserve to have to take shit either.
