Has anyone seen Sofia Coppola's second film, Lost in Translation? I was excited to see it, because I heard it was funny and it takes place in one of my favorite cities. Needless to say I was disappointed. However, it depends what's your sense of humor and taste in movies. I just felt that many scenes were useless and confusing to the story and that Coppola just filmed a stereotypical Tokyo, nothing new but the same old neon lights and the subways. It was like watching a Woody Allen film, LOL.

agreed. some superflous scenes of shit. she should have cut down that movie. maybe cut out most of those party scenes. i still liked it though. it was such an atypical movie that i had no choice but to enjoy it. it reminded me a little of wes anderson's (tenembaums, rushmore) humor but it wasn't as funny. i thought bill murray was fantastic though. i'd tell people to see this before some of the other shite in the theatres right now.

i thought her treatement of tokyo was fair. it was supposed to be an american tourists view right, so obviously the neon, and hitek rooms, and karyoke were just part of the atmosphere. i'd probably see the movie again and then be done with it.

I very much agree with you. Many people didn't like The Royal Tenembaums, but the critics did and so did I. I always fall for those black comedies, but Lost in Translation really isn't one, even though it is an atypical movie. Also, you're right, this movie is better than most shit they're showing now. Also, I some what agree on Coppola's treatment of Tokyo, because it is through the eyes of USA tourists, however, when watching movies dealing with urban culture and/or people, I always like to see a part of that city that most don't and maybe those two gringo tourists could've done that...but didn't.

most people didn't like tenembaums.... dont tell me these things. makes me lose hope in the world. royal tenembaums is unbelievably good, in my top three. wes anderson is genius.
the next wes anderson movie comes out in feb. called sea lab or some such. its got bill murray, owen wilson, and willem defoe in it. about an underwater lab. sure to be good
