Sadly, this crap is happening all over the country... nearly every state has been undercutting public education...

I heard they shortened the school year by several weeks in Oregon because they could not afford to pay the teachers for a whole year...

and then conservatives piss and moan about the bumper sticker on my car that says "it will be a great day when schools have all the money they need and the air force needs to hold a bake sale to buy a bomber."
i was debating w/ conservatives over at another site and they were insisting that bush is spending more on education than any other previous president and that in my state of virginia, mark warner is increasing spending.
now, show me figures that indicate that.
they renovated my school. big fucking deal. they cut our teachers' pay, they cancelled a bunch of programs for kids who are more than a bit misguided, and the education is no better, just in a more calming beige and pale green asylum colors package. it sucks. and just as your public education system is showing, commieboy, the american nation isn't doing jack shit for us. they'll send $87 billion over to iraq to "rebuild" yet they won't take care of us in school which they could easily do with less than half that much money. it makes me fucking mad.

My town lost close to $20 million from their budget. Guess what services take the hit? Well, at least Halliburton and Bechtel are getting $87 billion. As long as those CEO's can have that new summer house in the Hampton's then I'm happy. <_<

Promise
Bush Pledged to "Spend More on Our Schools" As Part of Education Reform Law. At the bill signing ceremony for the bipartisan "No Child Left Behind" education law, Bush pledged to increase funding for education. "And so the new role of the Federal Government is to set high standards, provide resources, hold people accountable, and liberate school districts to meet the standards. ... We're going to spend more on our schools, and we're going to spend it more wisely," Bush said. [Remarks on Signing the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, 1/8/02]

Broken
Bush Budget Cut $90 Million From "No Child Left Behind" Education Reform Law. According to an analysis of the Bush education budget by the House Education and the Workforce Committee, "Just one month ago, Congress and the President enacted the most important education reform legislation in 30 years. This bipartisan law is based on the principle that, with adequate resources, real reform is possible. But rather than building on this progress, the President's budget cuts initiatives in The No Child Left Behind Act by a net total of $90 million." [House Committee on Education and the Workforce, Democratic staff, The Bush Budget: Shortchanging School Reform, 2/12/02]

Oh, hmph, llamas are ok, but nothing compared to goats. I had heard that there wasn't many goats in michigan, or goat fields. Maybe they were trying to trick me, or make up an excuse for not having any. bastard.
