View Full Version : Quote of the day from a conservative

So there's this guy in my geography college class. I have lessons with him twice a week and he is a nationalist right-wing conservative (from what I can gather), almost every lesson he is butting in or arguing with the teachers about immigration or something like that (one of our geography teachers is an immigrant).

Anyway, on to the point, a few days ago he said this absolute gem (see hilarious quote #1) and I decided to record the ridiculous things he said (he says shit like this so often) so I can remember them and you can laugh at them. I will probably add a new quote either once or twice a week (I have two geography lessons a week).

Enjoy!

The BBC are communists, they worship the left wing

(he was sat next to me and looking through bbc news articles)

Of course they don't vote they're communist!! *angry tone*

(we were talking about the one-child policy in china)

Yeah I dunno, I'm not even really sure what neoconservatism is. Wikipedia says its about the 'spreading democracy' stuff associated with George Bush and others, which I guess is why Americans use it a lot.

I think Neoconservatism is like Libertarianism except without the Libertarianism (if that makes sense)

There's a guy they sometimes have on Question Time in the UK called Douglas Murray (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_Murray_(author)) and he self-describes as a Neoconservative, even wrote a book "Neoconservatism: Why We Need it"

Yeah, I generally associate 'neoconservativism' with the US, and as far as I know it generally refers to positions on foreign policy. Are you sure you don't mean 'neoliberal'?

In any case, I don't see anything too hilarious about those quotations, although I suppose that they would be better when heard in context.

Neoconservatism is primarily an American tradition. It crawled out of the rotten carcass of American Trotskyism.

Sometimes I can't help but make right wing bigots at school feel stupid when they say that shit. I really feel bad for embaressing them but sometimes I can't help it. That guy would have been one of those times.

And when you jump on him DO NOT be a shy little lamb, make him feel stupid and act as confrontational as possible. it's very entertaining to shut them up. Usually doing it once shuts them up forever in all your classes

Can you elaborate on this? I've heard this before but never really looked into the history of neoconservatism beyond the Wolfowitz Doctrine ...

Os Cangaceiros

It's admittedly mostly slander against Trotskyists. Most neocons weren't members of Trot organizations.

The reason the theme exists, though, is that several intellectual forces behind modern neoconservatism either came from left-wing families (Norman Podhoretz, Paul Wolfowitz) or were actually left-wing activists involved in the anti-Stalinist left (Irving Kristol, David Horowitz, Christopher Hitchens).
