first the war was supposed to only be covert forces, then it was "strategically" placed missiles, now it is carpet bombing.

the u.s. hasn't flat out lied to the people yet. what's being done is promising something in order to gain support, then when that gets accepted and/or old news, we go to the next level. if the government came out and said in the very first place, we will be carpet bombing, then it wouldn't have the support it has today.

i just heard the polls:

87% approve of war
8% disapprove

that's with a margin of error of 7%

The war was never confined to any set parameters. Special forces, carpet bombing, and precision munitions are all fare game. The U.S. government never said anything specific about how long this would take or what forces would be used......get it right pal.

Spooky, you have a point if you're just talking about the militaristic side of things. No action involving armed force can be set in stone, rightly or wrongly. It's the skeletons in the US governments cupboard regarding other motives and objectives that they are trying to avoid. The Unocal oil pipeline that Vice Prez Dick Cheney tried for years to drive through Afghanistan which will benefit him and Ex-Prez Bush Snr.The fact that Bush Snr. is involved in a corporation that is being investigated by the FBI for funding Al-Queda,the same company is involved with large defense contracts, whilst his son is the President.Dick Cheney also sits on the board of Lockheed Martin, guess who's just got the contractfor the joint strike fighter?I don't suppose they're shouting too much at the moment.
I never thought I'd agree with anything Ayatollah Khomeni ever said, but he's right when he said never trust a man who wears a tie!

the media is often an extension of the government, especially during times of war

something else i don't get is how according to the news the u.s. is still "striking back."

Bush is doing all this bc he wants the charisma he never had.
He wants people to think of him as a real president, when in fact he isn't.
Bush is doing all this bc he wants total control over the most strategical area in the Middle East, he wants AFEGHANISTAN.

Spooky-

Carpet bombing isn't fair game! Usually, more innocent civilians are killed than military people when urban areas (Kabul, etc.) are carpet bombed. Would you call it "fair game" if you were in the WTC when it collapsed and you died? I doubt you would.

Yeah Bush is using this event as a way to gain support for his campaign, beating it into them when they are weak and looking for someone to follow.
