First off the reason I put this in learning rather than anywhere else is that I really haven't got a clue about this. Feel free to shunt it anywhere else you think would be more suitable.

What the article describes is a massive increase (I only have the authors word for this as I have no idea about derivatives) in the amount invested in derivatives to a sum more than ten times the official world GDP. To me this sounds really scarey but again I'm clueless.

Is this something to genuinely worry about or just a lot of hot air?
