View Full Version : A problem with arguing..

I have encountered a problem with arguing with people outside the revolutionary left. I am basically having problems arguing for the following points.
- Being accursed of wanting "forced" equality.
Which i find very strange, being that i am an anarchist..
- The accusation of being an "idealist" or "utopian", and being told that a non-capitalist system is "unattainable".
I would normally bring up the Free Territory in Ukraine, but they responds just becomes that's only one place.
- And the aspect of human greed I.E. Not wanting to work hard if your needs are met.
Here i would usually bring up something like, the fact that every person wants to work with something they like and/or have control over, but then they just say that i am naive.
I would be very delighted if someone could help me with my minor issue.

Try explaining how Liberty and Socialism can coexist.

Say we live in the 16th/17th century, and we're under ruthless British monarchy rule. We're the people who want to rebel and break away from the evil rule, he's the coward who would rather submit. Throw in a couple of facts about how every human right and every good invention came through hard work, blood, sweat, and tears.
We're not utopianists, though.

You may or may not personally agree with me on this, but it's a matter of nature vs nurture. If someone is brought up in a society where they have to work 9-5, have an education setting them up for nothing more than work, a career, of course they're going to be greedy. Leisure time is nothing more than recovering for work.
Human nature is acting in accordance to you're environment. If you bring someone up in a Socialist society, where food is in abundance, things aren't scarce, humans have no reason to express greed.
Whether you agree with me or not on this, I'd highly suggest you do a bit of research on nature vs nurture (seeing as you're debating people who would like to excuse greed by saying it's a natural thing, and probably use typical "Communism goes against human nature" and "It's good on paper, but..." arguments and logic). It explains and answers questions like these with scientific studies and backing. Most of it, at least.

I have tried this too, but then he resorted to say that the two circumstances are not comparable.

Thank you, this was very informative. This will surely help me along the way.
