I have been looking at the Industrial Workers of the World (http://www.iww.org/) a lot lately and I agree with them on a lot of things. I am curious about one thing though, are there any places in the US where the IWW is the actual, recognized union at a workplace with full bargaining rights? Any wobblies about there who can give soms insights on the group?

I'm fairly sure they have. I have seen such news items about whole workplaces joining the IWW.

Your best chance of finding out more exact information is by contacting them (http://www.iww.org/contact.shtml).

For such information, it might be wise calling them via telephone.

From digging through their website I've found that they have in fact been recognized in some places. I'm considering joining, I think their philosophy results in strong unions.

I hear that the IWW is very small... but I like the premise of "One Big Union"...

Here in Nebraska, there are only two members... a schoolteacher in Lincoln (I know him fairly well--a very cool guy) and a security guard in Omaha...

The IWW is a great idea, but it needs many more members...

It's disappointing but from looking at their history it looks like the US government all but killed it off.

Yes, you are right... the capitalists were scared to death of the IWW in the opening decades of the 20th Century...

It is a great tribute to the IWW that it still survives to this day. It deserves to be renewed... lets scare the capitalists again!

carefull comrade, a renovation of the movement can mean the death of the very same..

Revisionism is not a option...

what IWW needs is activism, not revisionism...

I don't think he meant it needed to be "revised." Perhaps "renewed" wasn't the right word, he likely meant "revived.'

I'm a wobblie. We're fairly small now,but our membership is growing for the first time in years.Anyone who is a worker and not an employer and agrees with our principles can join.

That's good to hear.

I have never heard "renewed" used as a synonym for "revisionism"... it is very close to "revived"...

I also appreciate how open membership is to the IWW... I also understand that dues are inexpensive... definitely something to look into...
