full story at the link, here are a few snippets:

The “reintegration” programme, which has the full support of Nato, is intended to keep them from attacking troops from the International Stabilisation and Assistance Force (ISAF).

The amnesty extends to all Taliban fighters, including those who have taken part in atrocities, such as murdering children, beheadings and hanging women.

Taliban joining the programme are not interrogated but instead are asked to complete a questionnaire explaining their reasons for joining the insurgency.

Not surprising, this sort of dealing with opposition fighters has always happened in conflicts. The U.K government isn't the first,or last,to use such tactics.

I demand one hundred pounds a month right now or I shall go fight for the Taliban. I expect my check in the mail by tomorrow.

I was gonna say. Would it be cool if I joined the Taliban and immediately quit?

Exactly, they don't have money for the UK because there is a "crisis". And yet it is fine to hand out pensions for ex-taliban fighters.

It's appalling, and who knows where the money will go if the taliban still remain sympathetic. Surely cooperating with the taliban on ways to build infrastructure to their needs as opposed to ours would create a safer Afghanistan. But capitalism is all about profit, so it's not about what the Afghans want, but what the West wants.

I suppose it could be considered that the government wants the money to be used on donating to the taliban, and keep a wave of fresh arms in place to keep up the fight so when the "pull out" comes, we'll find an excuse as to remain there, and find more ways to build pipelines and keep an eye on the "rogue" nations.

I am sure the afghan black market figured out a way to make money off this scheme.

i also wonder, what happen if you join a different islamic fighting group, are you still entitled to benefits?

For £100 a month, I'll agree not wage guerrilla war against the British Army too.

This is actually a pretty clever tactic. Catalogue who once fought for the taliban and than kill them all in their sleep before NATO pulls out:mad:
