It will take me longer to provide a synopsis than it will for you to watch, but basically people on welfare can be characterised by being:

A. Rude.
B. The parents of mixed race children - presumably that being another mark against them.
C. Untidy.
D. Unwilling to aid those with physical disability.
E. Ungrateful.
F. Promiscuous.
G. Skinflints.

And doubtless others that others will note should they watch the video.

I don't find this funny at all, and I'm the kind of person who can see why some things would be funny to some people. However this isn't funny whatsoever. Nothing witty, clever, or humorous about it. Just a shitty cartoon mocking those who live in poverty.

This kind of stereotype is not limited to the UK.

No illegal drug use, though. They totally missed that stereotype!

lol

In Florida, they did this thing where they drug tested welfare recipients, The idiot governor Rick Scott probably believed/took seriously the stereotype of "drug addict welfare ingrates" of the 80s, etc yet he got a big surprise that the measure only found 2% of Florida's welfare recipients tested positive. I hope, although its unlikely due to how Americans' collectively conveniently forget such things, that this finding puts a dent on the stereotypes.

People seem to believe that these benefits are soooo generous and easy to get; but they ain't. Not in the US (not sure how it is in PR, but I was able to get section 8 for a small amount of time through a whole lot of shenanigans).

Here's an odd thing: I tried to get food stamps in Florida and they claim that if you're in college without a job you're not eligible yet if I was in college with a low income job I would be eligible...
I don't get it....so if I have no income (and thus hypothetically no way to pay for food) they just let you starve?

Some people believe that the American poor is not really poor because they are obese.

Marijuana is lipid soluble so it would be an easy drug to detect as its metabolites are not completed excreted but stored in adipocytes. It seems reasonable to infer that other drugs are less abused, since the "more licit" and "dangerous" drugs would be avoided by most people who value their physical welfare.

BTW, Rick Scott actually owns drug testing centers, but he transferred his ownership to a revocable trust to his wife while in office. He gains financial from this.

Yes, Scott's aim is purely the lowest level of Latin American level self-cronyism, lining your pockets with privileged contracts. He owns a loathsome group of for-profit walk-in clinics, called Solantic. He likes to masturbate with the governor's pen, what's the surprise.

I am on welfare. I was bullied by a middle class **** for being on it. He was basicily stalking me, and following me around. When I poked his face and warned him off, he reported me for assault! Also I had a discussion with a middle class socialist anarchist who was upset by the fact I was on welfare. He thought he was more noble than me, cause he paid taxes?

I refuse to be a wage slave, I would rather rob a bank!

I do not, personally speaking, morally care if one in our marginalized society elects to become a lumpen, but is that laudable politically?

Sorry to break your bubble but being on welfare still make you a serf and a Taxpayer. Every time you buy a product, pay the rent you contribute to the capitalist society.

The main reason why governements give welfare money is to pacify poor people by giving them something they could loose if they dont comply.

Has a worker, the one who hold my collar is my boss, in your case its the state.

If the social worker who is assigned to your case ask you to meet him or participate to some job formation program, you will be forced to comply beccause this damn bureaucrat control your lifeline.

A lot of right wing shitbirds on facebook heap praise on the governors of a couple states that do this - forgetting that paying for the testing will cost taxpayers a lot. Not to mention they are OK with letting someone's children lose benefits, become homeless and hungry just because the parent used drugs.

When the only person you can find to voice your stereotypical plebeian has an accent quite as plummy as that, you may want to consider the degree of objectivity which your social circle offers to you.

We are all slaves to the system at once level. I refuse to be a wage slave. I got plans to make money legally, but I am not going to be some **** slaving away for someone.

I "theoretically" did the per-assessment. Based on what I expect my graduate school situation to be like.

$8000 a year income (say if I get a graduate assistant job) plus another part time job (I put 400 a month)

I am eligible for $20 a month :D:rolleyes:

The US is even worse - people on welfare are seen as lazy, drug addicts, criminals, etc. And almost always as black or hispanic due to the racism of nearly everyone who is anti-social safety net. Disgusting reactionary swine. I hear it from them too for being disabled and on Social Security - I get about $1000 a month and good medical but these fuckwipes think it should be up to my parents or private charity to help and it's SOOOO wrong for the government to "steal" money from those who have to support those who need. Assholes. Meanwhile it's OK for a company to pay its CEO millions a year while the majority of its employees - you know, the ones who actually do the work - make barely above minimum wage.

Same. I was hoping for at least one laugh but not even that it just made my skin crawl with its overt racism.
