Hi, I'm from south Devon and national spokesperson with Progressive England (a green-left patriotic think tank and movement)

I have always lent towards the green side of left thinking, and come from a traditional Labour background. However in more recent years I became involved in campaigning for an English parliament. Without wishing to offend anyone many that campaign for an EP care more about waving a flag than the people of the country. I found some would willingly sacrifice the NHS just to have a parliament and were little more than Tories draping themselves in the Cross of St.George. Others were simply racial extremists.

After several force dawns and promises in a couple of parties, and following talks with likeminded green-left patriots a decision was made to establish the aforementioned movement.

Outside politics I enjoy music, reading, art, walking, scooters and classic motorcycles as well as spending time with my family. I enjoy both football and rugby, a lifelong Arsenal fan, and now a keen follower of both Brixham and Plymouth Albion rugby clubs.

So hello to everyone

Hello friend, I must say Labor is in a sore state nowadays(was never "ideal"but was definitely better in the past) it is difficult to find even reformists in it.
Green is good, patriotism...not that much, but as long as it is not the "DIE IMMIGRANT SCUM! MY COUNTRY IS THE BEST" patriotism it's okay I guess.
But nevermind my own thoughts, I hope you like the forum:)

I am from England too, I find most people who call for an English parliament are BNP/UKIP fascist sorts.

Patriotism doesn't sound very international and thus not very socialistic/communistic.

Patriotism can go do one as far as I'm concerned.

I think the anti-immigrant patriotism is stinks, as does the celebration of everything imperialistic. Such has no room in my thoughts.
Its difficult to see the future for Labour. I must admit, having read the BRS I agree with about 90% of it - but will Labour adopt any of it as a party - I doubt it. I do like the look of The People's Charter, and whether a grass roots movemnet can be built from this.

Most of the people I met in the English Parliament circles were like that and I share nothing with them politically - hence why we established Progressive England

It depends on your views on patriotism. I think this is something that has been hijacked by the far right who simply celebrate military victories, pomp, ceremony and empire. A new progressive vision has to be built where people are proud of the achievements of working people, of groups such as the Levlellers, the Chartists etc. It need to be pointed out 'this is our heritage and we are proud of it'. It needs to be pointed out 'their patriotism' brought wars and priviledges for the few. 'Our patriotism' was about people struggling for freedom and liberty.

Recently in the Morning Star there have been letters re-affirming a left wing stance to both national sovereignty and international solidarity. The basics of progressive patriotism.

I am part of a "degrading" working party myself for personal reasons. It's not quite as bad as Labor is but things are quickly going worse.
Still even if it fails it is good to see radical members inside those organisations, especially to criticise it's current stance.
