What makes any 'one' religion better than the other? Personally I'm not religious nor do I follow a religion.

Well, on the macro scale, all religion is about equally bad, because they are all about equally irrational. However; some faiths are more corrosive to society than others. Take fundamentalist Islam, or the apocalyptic Aum cult, for example. Jainism is definitely superior to the Abrahamic faiths in this regard, because it is almost pathologically pacifistic, wheras, conversely, depending on ones' interpretation, the Abrahamic faiths are much more compatible with violent, or antisocial behavior.

Can we ban this NGNM asshole already? I don't think restriction is enough.

The family and culture you were born into determine what you see as better.

It is possible to find some progressive sentiments in religion. I think one big issue in society, obviously, is war and peace. If you read the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew, chapters 5-7), then it seems reasonable that early Christianity adhered to pacifism (if one accepts the notion that the New Testament reflects the convictions of some of the earliest Christians). And, in fact, Christianity did not permit its adherents to join the Roman imperial army until 133 CE. So I would say that a religion that still opposed war and violence by governments would be not a bad thing, really, and religious people played a big part in opposing the war in Viet Nam, back when we had an antiwar movement of some size, in the 1960's.

Likewise, if one reads the Psalms (middle of the Old Testament), the Deity is depicted there as being really concerned about the poor and oppressed, which might suggest that believers should share that sentiment, which is a step in the right direction, for those who live in a class society where most people are exploited. The question of what is to be done to change things, still remains, of course.

I am aware that what I have written is obvious, but this late at night, that is probably the best I can do.
