Sorry if you guys dont all understand spanish. The torture sequence begins at 2:22.

Basically the police responded to a robbery and shooting in the notoriously dangerous neighborhood of TEPITO.. in Mexico City. You can then see how the cops are drowning the suspects head into a bucket of water.. repeatedly.

It concerns me that the general Mexican public has NO sympathy for suspects and most of them feel this is appropriate. I hate to say this but I don't understand why "we" are like this.. (Im mexican).. We seem to want the worst of the worst for our criminals without the concern for human rights and respect.

I can try to explain but not justify why we (being generalized to people in Latin America) are like this sometimes because we are generally used to such corruption, violent robbery, and the law never working that we often cheer on even the most brutal attempts to make people follow the law. Basically I think its a reaction to the fact that justice is never carried out.

Probably the public thinks that the police are "protecting" them from the cartels who are much worse.

That makes sense you guys. It really does. Whenever I'm reading general comments from Mexican people on different issues dealing with prisoners or suspects.. they seem to sympathize with the state.

A couple months ago one of the heads of the Mexican Cartels.. while in Prison..went on a hunger strike.. to protest the inhuman conditions at the prison he was being held at...

The comments on the news page were about 80% to 90% against the drug cartel prisoner. people were saying stuff like.. fuck him.. they shouldn't feed them.. they should just shoot them in the head..

I understand these are bad people in our society.. but while in prison they deserve a humane treatment.

This is standard Mexican police practice. Just the other day I was listening to my dad and uncle talk about how brutal Mexican law enforcement can be, even between themselves. This kind of thing has been going on forever.

Read about Porfiro Diaz's infamous Rurales. The Mexican state's been at this a long time.

Don't the Mexican police have a rather unique method, in which they force a mix of carbonated water and chili powder up your nose?

There have been plenty of incidents where Mexican cops have picked people up off the street for one reason or another. They're not as extreme as say the government in Burma or somewhere like that, where you don't ever hear of the person again or they're gone for days on end, but Mexican police can be cruel as all hell.

A couple of friends of mine have been beaten up for some petty shit too, and spending a night or more in a Mexican jail is not fun. I was nearly hauled in once myself, when I was still living there, just because I happen to "look like a purse thief from the area".

If people think LAPD is bad, Federales are even worse. They're ruthless and will chase you down forever, nonstop.
