There was a tainted blood scandal (http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/taintedblood/) in Canada. It cost the Red Cross its position of responsibility in managing the blood supply.

Not to forget their ban on blood donations from gay men and their bureaucratic waste of Haiti earthquake funds.
