Damnit, I envy you.
I love David Bowie.
He is without a question one of the greatest musicians of our time.
He has never seized to impress me.

Ziggy Stardust is my favourite song.... and album by Bowie.

Hmmm... I half agree with you. Most people would agree it's his best album, but my favourite songs off it are Five Years and Starman. Starman is one of the few really, really great pop songs - the essence of pop. Five Years is brilliant; I reckon it's got the best climax in all of music -

I think I saw you in an ice-cream parlour
Drinking milkshakes cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine
Don't think you knew you were in this song.
It was cold and it rained
So I felt like an actor
And I thought of Ma and I wanted to get back there
Your face, you're ace, the way that you talk
I kiss you, you're beautiful
i want you to walk
We got five years....

Man, I'm actually breathless just from typing it. Notice that only the first and last songs on Ziggy Stardust (Five Years and Rock 'n' Roll Suicide) have a climax; the ones in the middle just fade out or reach their natural conclusion (Suffragette City does it with the cool and famous 'sting in the tail'). Clever, eh?

I heard an interview with him and he said he absolutely despises Ziggy Stardust. Says that after a full year of touring he gets thouroughly sick of playing the same songs over and over, which is why he's so prolific when it comes to cutting new stuff.

[Disclaimer: I am fully aware that nobody cares about this any more, but I'm gonna post it anyway... coz it's special.]
Wowowowow. That was all kinds o' good.
He played 'Cactus' by Pixies, which is cool because it's a really understated yet intense song, and I've never come across anyone who appreciates it as much as I do, so the fact that he played it would be further proof (were such needed) of the metaphysical link between me and The Man. And he was wearing this rather good li'l black vest with the sleeves cut off, which very few 56 year olds would be seen in; mmmmmmm. Mike Garson was on keyboards; I didn't think he was still with him. Garson's a genius - dig the piano solo on the album cut of 'Aladdin Sane'.
Highlights were probably 'I'm Afraid Of Americans' (played real real loud and with cartoony dancing people going nuts on the big screen), 'All The Young Dudes', 'The Man Who Sold The World' (which he said he hasn't played on tour for years) and 'Hang On To Yourself'. He left all the 'Ziggy Stardust' material till the encore and then just loaded it on with three songs in a row. Oh wowowowow.

Thats truly a shame. Cuz IMHO, Ziggy and before is his best work. Somewhere after Heros he lost me.
