I think it's more likely that the guy doing the slaughtering/praying has to be Muslim.

Having worked in a slaughterhouse before, I can safely say that most workers there (at least if it's run anything like the ones in the UK) don't do any actual slaughtering.

As for the actual process itself, I think the whole "animal cruelty" aspect is a red herring for racist demogoguery. How exactly is a throat cut with a very sharp blade (with associated rapid exsanguination), any worse than the "standard" method, which is massive cerebral trauma via captive bolt gun?
