Hello all, Rabblevox here:
I'm in my 50's. I'm unemployed, live in subsidized housing, and have no health care.
I've been a life-long Democrat who grew up in a Roosevelt, Union, Kennedy, and Civil Rights family. Some of my earliest memories are walking the picket lines with my grandfather when I was 6, and helping my parents campaign for Bobby Kennedy when I was 8. And then seeing him killed.
I'm a vet who was at one time ready to give my life for my country.
I most recently worked at a radical consensus-based non-prof, but lost my job a year ago.
I'm not strictly anti-capitalism, or anti-democracy, I just think the way that both have been practiced have failed us.
I'm also not strictly pro-socialism, or pro-anarchy. I do think that some version of regionalized, de-centralized democratic socialism is the direction we should be pointing.
I still believe in voting, as something that can sometimes help, and at worst is a waste of time.
I also see no point in running 3rd party candidates, most of the time, it is just a waste of energy and resources. Maybe rarely there is a viable Socialist or Green candidate, but rarely.
I'm fiercely antifa and anti-corpratist, equally fiercely pro LGBTQ, women's, minority, and workers rights (in no order at all, either all people have basic rights, or no one really does).
I'm in 100% support of the Occupy movement, and have spent many days "boots on the ground" here in Portland.
I also believe, down to my bones, that everything will continue to get worse and more fucked-up for at least the next 50 years, maybe a lot longer. The best, maybe the only thing we can do at this point, is to try and plant the seeds that will carry on for 2 or 3 generations.
And I have no fucking clue right now what I do with the next chapter in my life, except I want it to fucking matter, and to leave a legacy that is truly for the greater good.
Somehow that wound up more personal than I intended. I'll let it stand.
Anyway, hello!!!! nice to meetcha!!!
