I was at a party the other night and this idiot was talking about how "race war" is inevitable and that black and latino people were going to rise up and "start exterminating whites" in the US and that all white people need to band together to "drive them out" as he put it. Needless to say I had a good laugh, and mostly everyone was ignoring it. Coming from rural New York I've met my fair share of racists but this seems particularly disgusting.

I've heard rumors about people like that but I never thought I would actually meet one in real life, how prevalent are views like this? Where the hell did the idea come from?

These people are delusional, and sit there and fantasize about some great war where they get to shoot all the "bad guys". They aren't all that dangerous really, some may be well armed and whatnot but don't expect them to start shooting unless they are sure that the race war has started. Which we all know won't happen.

The best thing is to pay them no mind, or mock them and taunt them. This way you can crash their self-esteem so they do not bring such stupid things up again.

Where the hell did the idea come from?
Fear is a standard element of racism. Racial war is only the logical extension of the self-identification with a particular race and the belief that it is in conflict with others. For a recent example, see Norway's Breivik: a man convinced that he is a footsoldier in a pan-European war against Islam

Being Latino myself, I can assure you that there is no Black/Latino conspiracy to rise up against the White Man and start extermination proceedings. Though I would have probably done as Psycho said, and not let him leave the party with his teeth in place, or his face in general.

And as for how prevalent it is, it depends on where you are I suppose. Me, it's not too big of a problem, but it can be.

Heh back in my home town for the weekend, small place, "boring" is an understatement. He got what was coming to him after the party anyway.
