I'm for fair systems. This involves a socialist system incorporating property rights and liberal doses of human rights. The ends justify the means is a pretty common thread of "communism", and it's NOT acceptable in my book.

"capitalism" simply denotes a system that accepts the way the world works.... based on "capital", or material and mediums of exchange for material. This is reasonable, because everything is only made out of matter. It simply needs to be regulated..... That's all. Corporations are not people, and killing a corporation because it harms people should not be some sort of silly moral battle, they did wrong, they should be disbanded, the economy can't suffer if you don't decide it will, it's pretty imaginary.... a measure that took on a life of it's own. I wasn't trying to be ageist, but I do think that people shouldn't be getting involved in radical politics or on sites like this from too young an age. Maybe I'm just being influenced from my own experience though, I was way too politically impressionable when I was younger

I think nowadays at least hippies are just another subculture, like goths. Despite that they still get lumped alongside Marxists, Muslims and atheists by the likes of the American Taliban.

Sure, one may have criticisms of hippies as a subculture, but to criticise them for being "ineffective" or "disorganised" is to miss the point. The time when the hippiedom could be considered a motor for social change has long since passed, and now it's pretty much just another aesthetic.

Of course, what hippie aesthetics imply, or at least what they imply in the minds of detractors, can still be a source of foaming-at-the-mouth syndrome for legions of Reich-wing dullards with Napoleon complexes. But I fail to see what it to be gained by playing to that particular prejudice.

Oh, he's sympathetic to socialism in a certain sense. At the very least, he definitely hates capitalism. But he doesn't show any interest in learning about socialist politics, or how socialism might practically be brought about. His conception of socialism is very idealist and, well, hippie-ish. He once told me he didn't agree with Lenin because he though violence was necessary to change the social order. While I think there's plenty to criticize about Lenin, criticizing him for not being a principled pacifist is a bit bullshit.

He's kind of a trust-fund petit-bourgeois student type, so this all makes sense. He's often times more concerned about the environment than about the economic collapse and continued oppression (though to be fair, he's getting a bit better in this regard; he used to be very misanthropic).
