we all know that this war was about oil. i also believe that this chaos was created in order to protect the israeli terrorists and further their dominance in the region. there are no weapons of mass destruction in iraq, that was a BIG FAT lie. the only thing that bush has liberated is the oil. the illegal war has now turned into an illegal occupation and we must do everything to support the resistance.

ive heard people call this the new vietnam, all i can say is i hope more american soldiers are killed this time.

USA=#1 TERRORISTS! :angry:

It is very clear that WMDs were never more than a smokescreen... and it sure as hell was not a humanitarian action--we are arming most of the bastards...

As to why the war happened, there are several ideas--I suspect several of them are true...

1. Oil, of course... the second-largest reserves in the world, and they are being held by a regime that will not play ball with our corporations--by the way, did I mention the regime was too weak to defend the petrol from us? Taking candy from a baby!

2. An opportunity to make an example of what the U.S. imperial machine is capable of... posturing, showing off to the world...

3. Need a major war to test the latest military hardware in live combat

4. Opportunity for U.S. to build military bases in Middle East... greater assertion of regional domination... ability to withdraw from failing Saudi regime

5. Bush seeking vengeance for the Saddam's alleged attempt to assasinate the elder President Bush (Dubya's mom, wife, and a brother were also with poppy--if an attempt via carbomb were made, they would have all been killed)

Five potential reasons... and they are all wretched... you know you have an unjust war when none of the potential reasons are respectable...

I think that you should have read the doxens of other threads which litter the board on this subject.

What?Don't you believe that Saddam was protecting terrorists?
Don't you believe that Iraq bought uranium from Nigeria?Don't you believe that our best friend Bush want democracy in Iraq?Don't you believe that Iraq could use WMD in 45 minutes?

WHat happens when you attempt to capture a man who, with two decades of U$ Aid, launches the first forign attack on U$ Soil since the War of 1812 (remember, Hawaii wasnt a U$ State until 1950), and then lose him in a god damned hole in the ground?

Well, You go after an old enemy, who is MUCH easier to find (Or so you'd think)!

I belive Bush Jr launced the Unjust War against Iraq to make up for the fact that his incompetant staff (him included) lost Osama bin Laden. And then, Upon "conquring" Iraq, Saddam disappears too!

Bush's forign policy is turning into one twisted game of Whack-A-Mole...

RF makes a good point--that is another potential reason... I knew I was leaving some out...

Bush enjoyed tremendously high approval ratings after the attacks of September 11th, 2001... they were starting to slip... try to start a war to get everyone to shut up and fall in line...

I have to agree with Enigma. I think it's pretty obvious what people here are going to think. What's next, a "What do you think about Capitalism" thread?

They are terrorists
They ignored sooo many UN resolutions
They have weapons of mass destruction

Wait a minute...that's Israel.

The war was probably about strategic gain and oil. Although, I have read a nice article arguing that Iraq changing their selling of oil from U.S. dollar to EU was what angered the U.S. North Korea, Iran, Cuba, Syria, and Venezuala were also countries that did this. Another possibility is that this war is about accepting Israel's requests.

Exactly...

The arguments the Bush administration gave for invading Iraq and imposing "regime change" would be more accurately an excuse to invade either Israel, Pakistan, or North Korea...

I do not think we will see any of those happen--maybe Korea, but that will be a blunder or accident. The hawks do not really want to fight there, but sometimes all the posturing makes war inevitable--militarists have to defend their credibility, you know...

Elegy to War

I stand under the desert moon as tanks
Move around the sandy battlefield while men
In uniforms carrying guns fire at each other and
Smoke and the smell of gunpowder fill the night air…
The darkness was blinding but I can vividly see lifeless bodies
As they moisten the dry sand with their own blood
The sound of bombs exploding was deafening but I can clearly hear
The haunting cries of broken lives and stolen dreams
The sight was unbearable but all I could do was watch
The lifeless bodies rotting away as the vultures feast over them
And listen to the endless cries of tomorrows lost forever
As I stand under the desert moon and wish that my own blood
Would also moisten the sand soon…

*I made this poem when the war on Iraq was still the "hot issue" but although it is not the "hot issue" anymore, i think the war isn't over yet...Bush just thinks it is

The war was definitely about oil, and strategic control of the Caspian Basin.

As a secondary, it was probably also about lining the pockets of the defense contractors.
