The official Marxist position on the book is somewhere along the lines of 'lol'.

Jonah Goldberg is a troll like Ann Coulter. Have you read Liberal Fascism? It's based on strawmans and guilt by association like Mussolini's father was a socialist, scary! Mussolini was inspired by socialism so fascism was based on socialism. And how does this relate to the American left? Who cares!

Mussolini wasn't just inspired by socialism, he was an active socialist and an editor of the socialist party's newspaper.

He also goes back to Georges Sorel quite a few times to try to link socialism to fascism. The premise of the book is not that fascism is connected to American liberalism, but rather radical socialism.

Books like this are just propaganda to try and confuse people more. If someone who doesn't know what Fascism or Socialism is decides to do extensive research on what these two systems really mean, they will see the difference. A book such as this one is to not only troll, but to try and conflate Socialism with a right-wing ideology (Fascism) then sell it as "this is what socialists want to do".....its all lies, propaganda and misinformation to try and discredit the left. And sadly, many idiots will drink it up like kool-aid.

American liberalism is kinda fascist since its capitalist and imperialist but american conservatism is *even more* fascist since its both of those things + xenophobic -which glodberg won't say. he quotes strasser trying to say the Nazis were socialist but doesnt mention sHitler *killed* strasser and the “left“ Nazis once he was finished using there socialist rhetoric to fool the german working class.

There are some basic truths in the book. That there are links, however tenuous, between fascism and socialism should be self-evident; as has been mentioned, Mussolini came out of socialism, and a lot of proto-fascists liked talking about Proudhon and Bakunin, that is to say, the same people sections of the left-wing like to talk about. Albeit it in a different way. The link between fascism and post-fascist liberalism also can't be overlooked; many have accused Keynes of closeted fascism, for instance, and there were a number of economic and social policies supported by fascists and liberals alike. Both, for example, seem to want the trains to run on time

This, however, isn't enough to build a book off of. It's effectively at about the same as saying "this socialist quoted Rousseau, this fascist quoted Rousseau, therefore socialism is fascism. Also Rousseau is a great big liberal. Liberalism is therefore the basis of both socialism and fascism and should be vehemently opposed." If I wanted to, I'm pretty sure I could link literally any European idea with any other European idea. "The Centrale Surréaliste was supportive of Trotskyism. Dalí was a famous surrealist. Dalí seemed pretty keen on Franco. Therefore Trotskyists continue to betray the international working class, as they did in the Spanish Civil War by supporting Franco."

I think you'll all agree I should write a book :)

Fascist theory was based on national syndicalism, as the original theorists were mostly Sorelian syndicalist-nationalists. They split with the other syndicalists who were anarchist.

So there is a link between fascism and the left wing.

But it's as relevant as saying neo-conservatism has a link to socialism/liberalism because some members were socialists and liberal and took the idea of the US as a force for revolution in the not so free world. They also favor welfare in some form.

Neo-Cons = right wing soc dem "third way" interventionists.

Does this connection make them liberal or socialist? No.
