View Full Version : Fuck. I am annoyed.

I'm tired of apologists for the police and their brutality. You need not look much further than the Occupy movements to see their brutality in action. I am tired of people nonchalantly stating that these protesters should be fucking shot. What the hell?

I am tired of mindless nationalism. Mindless pride. Unwarranted pride.

I am already tired of my minimum wage, part-time job that I've only had for three months or so. The managers are fucking morons. They will tell you not to stand around (when there is nothing else to do!) all the while that's exactly what they're fucking doing; behind their desk..or talking about bullshit to random people. They do what they condemn and they're paid much more for it. Shit. <sarcasm> How about some critical thought, especially since being a manager automatically means you're more intelligent than your workers. </sarcasm>

Maybe my complaints are petty, but I'm sick of the status quo. I'm sick of most people. Not to discredit their humanity, but I am just sick and tired of the way that some people act and respond to certain stimuli.

I don't know. I just needed a place to vent. Today was much more annoying than most days, for some reason. Sorry.

edit: something else that has been biting at my heels is this: with all of these Occupy movements going on and with people being seemingly more active in...activism.. (ha), it makes me want to help and be a part of it. Yeah, I spread around information and what I read or see, but that's about all I can do at the moment. I live in a fairly rural area where, of course, my thinking is the minority. Most of the people here are probably Republicans. Whether or not you disagree with the Occupy movement, I'm just glad they are raising awareness. I think much more needs to be done. I want much more to happen. But how long until more people are out on the streets and before they care? I wish that day could be tomorrow, but it won't be.

I have this same exact problem at my work when it isn't busy. I will be working the drive-thru or something and two managers will be behind me making plans to go out and party after work and the moment the drive-thru is clear and I start talking to another coworker one of them will immediately turn around and tell us if we're not busy we need to clean the place up. One day they literally had me cleaning the lobby(That place where everybody eats) for FOUR HOURS. I'd come back and they'd say "go clean the lobby". So I stood there sweeping the same spot because I already made the place freakin' spotless after two hours of sweeping/mopping.

Vent away! Enjoy!

By the way, that's the nature of most jobs I'm afraid. Especially ones that involve a drive thru.
It's stuff that needs to be done that is so awful, they have to pay someone to do it. My job is like that too.
Even if The Revolution comes tomorrow morning, the work must still be done and a lot of it just plain.... Sucks.
Better to figure out something more challenging to do. Or maybe look on the bright side like it's INDOORS and not in the mud or in the snow, even if it's only mostly Indoors.

If you seriously want to be able to join in some protest or other.... The water's fine, the weather frosty and the tear gas..... pretty irritating!

Be mindful of a few things:

There is a chance of arrest., beatings, injuries, scars, disfigurement or death.
As well as a greater chance of getting on some blacklist or other.
But hey, if you're here, you might already be on one of those!

These are currently peaceful protests. You won't be welcome if you are spoiling for a fight. It's hard to not strike back as you're being shoved and beaten. The OWS guys are amazing on many levels. Their commitment, self-control and ability to weed out Cops from their ranks are some. There may actually be hope.

If you're in a small town, everyone knows everyone. If you intend to stay, you would be best advised to be cautious. This is a form of Blacklist, by the way. You probably don't want to be on it.

Us big-city people have it different. With hundreds of thousands or even millions in one area, there's more opportunity to start over if you screw up badly.

Just keep in mind Protesting won't change your job. Unless you get imprisoned that is. Then it's probably even worse and the managers have guns.

You're not alone, man. Most of us here can relate to the work problems, hell, I know I can. My work is drudgery. And I definitely understand how it feels to be surrounded by jingoists, Christian fundies, Fox News fanatics, bigots, and the like as I live in a rural area too. Hell, half the time I worry about getting jumped by Klansmen.

It definitely sucks being far away from everything, I've been a bit discouraged too just because of that. All you can do is just keep your head up, and realize that someday you'll get away from it if you try. Try to make it out to as many demonstrations as you possibly can, even if they are small. It helps.

We're here cause we are all tired of all that. We're tired of constant injustice generally accepted cause "that's in human nature". I'm tired of that bullshit too. I hate the competitive and greedy society, I even started hating something that i used to love - my Uni, the stupid fucks are all pompous competitive bastards. Im sick of looking for a job and being treated like an object.
Protesting unfortunately didn't change a thing in my life :/ It's so fucking annoying, the sense of powerlessness.

Yeah, I must say the worst thing about precarious bullshit work is how often you are required to do absolutely pointless, fruitless, and irrelevant things because it makes the empty-headed order-givers feel like they are organizing effectively, or earning their excessive pay. Every manager is a tiny Gosplan, full of just as much clueless stupidity. Let's be honest, they are not paid to actually do a single fucking thing, only to be there to be the top-hat taking blame from the proprietor.

Haha, I probably am on some kind of list. With everything that I read, post, sites that I visit, etc... then yeah, probably so.

That's one thing that I hate about living in a rural area; if you show that you're completely out of line with the local thinking/rhetoric, then a lot of people are going to know it. And with a lot of people knowing, you're much more likely to be condemned by the majority.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. It's good to know you're not alone in your thinking; even if you do have to visit an online forum to find like-minded people.

Some more words of hopeful encouragement for our dis-spirited Comrades...

Hate your pointless job slaving away for some heartless, brainless toad of of a Cappie?

Jobs suck, especially now when there's so few of them and Our Wonderful Employeers get to act out their God fantasies.

Don't dwell on it. Use your limited time and resources to better yourself even while working at your wretched job.
If possible, try to organize a Union!
What better way to pay back your wonderful Employeers for all of the great times you've shared than to present them with their very own Union Problem?

I helped do this for a particularly deserving Employeer once. The look on their faces after the election made it all worthwhile. As a bonus, Corporate got new, even "better" management for us and he lined us up against a wall and growled in the very best mobster tradition, "Who here voted for da union?" I had the very great honor of stepping forward first.
You can't pay for memories like that! :D and you won't earn them at a "nice" job.

My suggestion for a more fulfilling employment:
Don't expect anything more than drudgery at basic jobs. If you work at one and don't like the constant low-level BS, seek to improve yourself.
How?
First, it doesn't involve a degree or massive debt.
Just look around. Stuff need doing and it usually isnt done by over educated snobs with MBAs
I'm talking about The Trades! Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Mechanics and Technicians of all kinds. We often have Unions too. See if you might want to pursue a glorious career in the field of hard work.
The pay isn't bad, you will exercise your mind and body, trival office politics don't apply (as much) and you are actually doing something constructive.

Good luck!

I totally feel what you have said about management. Heck, no wonder capitalism is in crisis and everywhere is going out of business, when the whole western world is littered with totally SHIT managers on majorly inflated unwarranted wages.

Sad thing is, in a business scene it should be the management who are the first to go due to their higher wage, but the west being the west.....

I used to have a job like that and then I got an job teaching English as a foreign language in China, did a year there and now I am teaching in Turkey.

No experience or qualifications required.

I'm not sure of the age of the OP, but I assume you are young?

I hear ya man. I'm 35, and that stuff has been happening my whole working life.

It doesn't get any better either as you get older or move up in the ranks.

The things is, what people don't understand is that cleaning and sweeping the floor would be a lot more enjoyable without Capitalism. When everyone pitches in and there is no class division to do it.

When I was 16 and I used to collect the carts for the supermarket in the car park, I was proud of the work. Proud to serve. Someone needed to do it.

But the job sucks when some wanker is putting you down or suggesting you don't work hard enough.

The reactionaries that go on and on about 'hard work' are usually the laziest and whiniest workers out there.

This.

Yes, I am young, haha. and I work at a grocery store.

I know exactly what you mean. If we weren't viewed as servants to the general public, then I might enjoy it just a little bit more (the pay is still shit, though). If everyone viewed each other as another human being and if everyone could just help in any way that they were able, it would be so much better.

I'm home after getting off from work and I asked a manager (as we always have to do...) if there was anything that needed to be done before I left, she first told me to clean out the trash outside and put in new trash bags. This wasn't needed whatsoever, there was very little trash and every time I do this I feel like it's so wasteful...but it must be done! just to give us something to do. If I hint that it really doesn't need to be changed, she will insist... and the manager (or the customer, but never you) is always right!

After that, I asked once again...I was told to bring in all of the carts. So I did. I brought in five at a time and she told me that the limit is four. That's a fucking nonsensical rule if there ever was any, if you ask me. I mean, capitalists are all for efficiency aren't they? They act as if you should be endlessly efficient and yet when you do just a bit more, you're scolded. Oh well.

I asked if there was anything else... again...this time it was to check the bathrooms. They were clean. barely any trash in the trash cans. I'm told to clean them out. I feel like I'm wasting resources in the name of efficiency, yet again. You know, I read a book titled Das Energi once, and I think the words were.. "efficiency is a close cousin to death." Interesting book. Kind of new age-y, but whatever.

Finally, I'm able to leave after helping a cashier for a few customers (bagging their groceries).

Yes, I realize that all of this is very petty and maybe not worth any complaint, but most of it is just so damned nonsensical. It's useless. Wasteful. It's obsessive compulsive in the name of efficiency. and the reason that I ask before doing any of these things is because if I do them myself without asking, and then ask to leave and tell her that I've already done it; she won't believe me. She'll tell me to "go make sure," to "check again." so...it's pointless, apparently.

In case you didn't notice, I just wanted to go home... :tt2:

Don't worry, I'm not going to post every single day about what annoys me at the job; but this is a good, general idea of what goes on. It's just a piling on of bullshit and annoyances, I suppose. If we were paid more or treated with more respect (or both!), then I have a feeling people wouldn't hate it so much. Such is a minimum wage job, eh?

If you read this entire mundane narrative, I applaud you. and thanks. :)

edit: I mentioned Das Energi, you can see it here: http://blackcigarette.livejournal.com/767510.html -- if you're curious about my reference, scroll to page 10.

Complete and utter bullshit so I stopped trying to make something clean the first time since I would be doing it again once the rush ended anyways.

This is how ridiculous the situation was for me to today with my manager:

I've been working at McDonald's for a little less than one month. I've done almost everything there is to do there. I've worked cash register, drive-thru, ran the food, worked on grill, worked on fries, made the meals, etc. We get really busy out of nowhere (Someone really ordered 200 McNuggets, come on, seriously wtf?) and the only person not doing something was a manager so she thought she would help me out on the grill/ frying the food.

I had to teach her how to do it. I've been there for less than a month and can do almost everything in the whole place; she's been a manager for 2 years and doesn't even know how to do the most basic thing which is cooking the food! I couldn't believe it when she asked me to teach her how to do everything that she was being serious, I literally laughed in her face.
