:: Colombia: The Second Israel ::
It is clear to see if you look threw anybody’s eyes the dirty games the US government plays on other countries. Cheating on one to make some kind of benefits one way or another is commonly seen by the Bush Administration. There is also a clear connection between the US aid in Israel and the US aid in Colombia. Both of these countries that receive this so called “aid” is just another target of the administrations on going efforts to gain desperate financial connections and international respect.
The ongoing military weapons trade is one of the many factors that contribute to the many failures in the Middle East and Southern American region. Failures such as maintaining peace and stability are seen due to the unfair game that the Bush Administration is playing on millions of people. It is a game that the United States government participates in and on there side they are switching cards under the table to gain the upper hand. The game continues affecting millions and in return the government gains billions of dirty dollars in profit.
The military aid to Israel is not an aid for the common good. This aid promotes future violence and hatred between opposing sides. We see the Israeli government failing to make any significant progress on the road map to peace. A road map which is now just another forgotten step to a more peaceful society has proved its incapability to work correctly. Such a plan was set up with many holes. If the Israelis didn’t live up to the agreement and fired on the Palestinians the Palestinians would fire back on the Israelis and so forth. It’s the way these two sides have been operating in the past and its how they operate today. So to create this road map ignoring the way things are in this region was a total blunder to anybody who supported this plan.
It was clearly known at the time before this plan went into effect by the government that this plan would not succeed and that it would trigger a wave of violence in Israel. As a result a call for more support by the US was made to distribute more military aid to Israel in return of dirty money. So as the our president addresses to us that an effort for peace it being made, he is really telling us that we are continuing to sell our aid in return for money and this will continue successfully as long as there is more terrorist attacks being made inside of Israel.
The same goes in Colombia. Neither the Colombian government nor the rebel groups have made any significant steps to re-establish peace and it is clear that they are fighting a war, one where the Colombian government finds itself grasping on tight. The US support to the Colombian government only makes the situation worse. Since 2000 the United States have given over $2 billion of mostly military aid to Colombia, along with training Colombian troops to face the guerilla forces. Politically motivated attacks have risen along with politically motivated killings which rose from an average of 14 to 20 per day. A clear indication that US support only making matters worse.
The White House intentions to go to Colombia were to try to eliminate coca production. According to the White House's own Office of National Drug Control Policy, coca production in Colombia increased by almost 25 percent between August 2000, when Plan Colombia went into effect, and December of 2001. This shows that the US won’t end the drug production and yet the US still continues to send aid knowing that it doesn’t help.
This is all only a money issue to the US. They are aware of it too. The people of Colombia are aware of it and they don’t want the aid because it only makes the war worse. The only people that want it is the Colombian government and as long as it’s like that the US will continue its trade of weapons and training for money. Innocent people die everyday because nobody is taking a responsible step to defend the civilians caught in the middle of everything.
Israel and Colombia is just another target of the administrations on going efforts to gain desperate financial connections and international respect. It’s being played out in front of us everyday and we see the situation getting worse everyday. The only question is who’s going to be next? Who’s going to be the next Israel?
