I don't think anybody should be surprised by the governments actions against him. They are trying to make an example out of him. :(

I suppose I shall add those examples to my considerable list of "Reasons to Never Join an Imperial Fighting Force."

Lots of reactionaries say he deserved it because "ZOMG it was top secrit!!! He'z a traytor!!!" Not seeing how the US keeps WAYYY too much stuff secret. Even without that shit why would anyone want to join. It's the imperialist arm of capitalism. Of course they brainwash people with commercials saying they're "protecting other Americans" and convincing them it's a good way to get an education (and unfortunately it IS the only chance a lot of poor people have.)

Yeah, the recruiters in HS is seriously fucked up. I was getting called by recruiters all the time once I turned 18 - even though I'm an insulin-dependant diabetic and therefore ineligible. Also, I turned 18 in 1992 - after the Cold War at a time the military was cutting back! I also had already been accepted at college. Stopped after less than a year.

This isn't surprising when my grandfather was in the 82nd Airborne they were giving out weekend passes to anyone willing to expose themselves to Agent Orange and this was long before Vietnam back in the late 50s early 60s.

Recruiters stopped calling me after my mother got pissed with them calling during High School after taking the ASVAB and she told them I was dead. No more calls after that.

haha! same here. in 1986, my bf's boyfriend broke up with her and joined the army. she dragged me down to the local recruiting station to get his whereabouts.. we were about 16 at the time, hs dropouts, punk party girls with wild hair who stayed out all night doing unhealthy stuff. They actively and unsuccessfully were recruiting us. d-e-s-p-a-r-a-t-i-o-n!!!!!

I finished High School in the US so I know how these fuckers come and recruit people. The second I turned 18 I started getting phone calls from the Army/Marines/Navy etc.

At the High Schools they show up and give out t-shirts and bullshit, talk about how you can get an education and whatnot blah blah blah. They have harmless little pushup/pullup contests (which I could not help but participate in) I remember telling one of them I do not want to join the army, I box and want to pursue boxing and he tells me "you can do that in the army!" Whatever you fucking say "oh you can do it in the army!" You cook? Oh you can do that in the Army! You play the guitar? Oh you can do that in the Army!! Fuck that shit.

A marine even challenged me to a fight after I told him I box and don't want to join the Marines because I want to pursue boxing and school.

This guy has the nerve to challenge a 17 year old HS student to a fight. I was actually about to do it too had the marines buddy told him to not talk like that as to avoid getting in trouble with their officer or whoever. He had the nerve to try and mock me in front of my friends at my HS which he came to in order to deceive the youth into joining the army. Fuck them.

Not everything. My friend pissed off the Navy Recruiters pretty bad when he randomly brought up masturbation and his love of men. Then he asked for some pencils and the recruiter said he couldn't give it to him because he doesn't know what he would do with them. My friend busted a gut laughing and started shouting what homophobic fucks they were. It was pretty hilarious especially since after that we would always walk up and ask for pencils only to be glared at.

I used to get calls from recruiters in my latter years of high school and early years of college. They pretty much stopped when I informed them I was a homosexual communist. :)

I had a buddy who was screwed into coming to a recruitment office by one of his friends.

The guy doesn't give two shits about any army or whatever. He sits down and looks at the recruiter and says "I will join the Army only if you can promise me I get to jump out of an airplane every day." The recruiter says "Sure you can sign up for airborne and train..." my friend cuts him off "No FUCK THAT! I want to jump out of a plane every single day! If you can't promise me that then fuck you!" and he storms out. lol

The worst thing is they try to place this stigma on those who do not want to join as being cowards. They played that shit all the time. Cracked jokes about civilians and shit. It's really fucking stupid, and insulting to my intelligence that they tried to pull that shit on me.
