STOP: Help save city mental health clinics
Dear friends,
If you have never supported one of our actions, Tuesday is really important day to support. We are days away from a a vote on a callous and cold-hearted city budget that closes half the city's mental health clinics and privatizes all seven of its neighborhood health centers yet barely touches the millions in TIF funds that go to corporations like the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. This is a death sentence for many. You may remember that in 2009 we saved four of these same clinics. But I need to count on all of you to support if we are going to do it again.
There are three easy things you can do:
1) Come out to our action Tuesday at 12noon at the Chicago Temple at 77 W. Washington and invite all your friends
2) Call your Alderman and say "NO CLINICS NO VOTE - Don't vote for any budget that closes or privatizes clinics"
3) Forward on the below email (our open letter to the Mayor signed by 47 community groups and labor unions) to everyone you know and post the facebook event to your profile.
See you all Tuesday!

OPEN LETTER TO MAYOR RAHM EMANUEL
(signed by 47 community organizations and unions, see full list at bottom)
Please halt the devastating cuts of vital health care services and invest in better services for the most vulnerable in our city.
Many thousands of residents rely on the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) for critical mental health and primary care services, but your 2012 Budget closes 6 of the City’s 12 Mental Health Clinics, privatizes of all 7 of the City’s Neighborhood Health Clinics, and lays off hundreds of dedicated employees.
The proposed cuts will have a significant impact on clients, patients, City employees and the quality of life in the City as a whole by:
Destroying long-standing relationships individuals have with their providers.
Leaving many people with no where to turn for care.
Laying off dedicated employees who have decades of experience, make a decent living and give back to the City and their neighborhoods.
Undermining the value of community health by forcing residents to travel outside of their community to get care.
Killing good-paying jobs for Chicago residents.
Costing much more in tax dollars and human suffering because people will not get the care they need and end up in emergency rooms, police stations and jails.
WE URGE YOU TO:
• HALT ALL CLOSURES AND CONSOLIDATION OF MENTAL HEALTH CLINICS.
• STOP THE PLAN TO PRIVATIZE THE NEIGHBORHOOD HEALTH CLINICS.
• FULLY FUND AND STAFF ALL CDPH CLINICS.
• CREATE A TASKFORCE OF COMMUNITY RESIDENTS, CONSUMERS, POLITICAL LEADERS, WORKERS AND CDPH MANAGEMENT TO DEVELOP A 10 YEAR PLAN FOR IMPROVING HEALTH SERVICES IN CHICAGO.
