Allot of the quotes I've seen of Ho Chi Mihn seem to suggest he valued personal freedom highly. But what was Vietnam like under him? Anyone know any good books about life in post-war Vietnam and it's foreign relations?
Was it a puppet state of the PRC?

Ho Chi Minh died in 1969. The war didn't end until 1975.
"Life under Ho Chi Minh" would have been life during war time, in only one part of the country.
"Life in post-war Vietnam" would have been life under others, since he had died while the war was still going on.

Yeah...nothing much to say since he died during the war. There was a short-lived regime concentrated in the North and as far as I know the CIA had concluded that he would have won 80% of the votes in the South, so they had to cancel the elections.
