Marvel are about to kill off Spider-Man after almost 50 years. The story has Peter Parker die at the hands of the Green Goblin while trying to save Aunt May, in a way atoning for him not being able to save Uncle Ben. A new Spider-Man will take his place. What has this got to do with capitalism?

Well as we know capitalism must always reinvent itself, it must always change the product slightly in order to continue to remain profitable in a constantly changing market. With the creation of a new Spider-Man it opens up the possibilities of making more films without needing to employ the same actors. Don't be mistaken in thinking this is for artistic or story telling reasons. The writers already state that the basic premise will be the same a young new Spider-Man will have the same relation to the other characters with Peter Parker becoming the new Uncle Ben.

Really, all this is about is Quesada and the continuing bullshit over BND/OMD.

They used a deal with the devil to write Mary Jane out of the main series, and then they're using various other excuses to write her out of the others.

Old news, already happened. I'm cool with it, given that, you know, Ultimate Spiderman is only part of the goddamn franchise.

Does anyone else think comic books and their storylines have gotten overtly complicated and generally shit?

For the nerds out there, this is an alternate reality spiderman. Almost half of the mainstream marvel characters (prof X, magneto, cyclops, wolverine, daredevil, dr strange, Spiderman, Wasp, et al.) have been killed off in the Ultimate universe.

[Geek hipsterism] Exactly. Ultimate Spiderman isn't exactly real Spiderman, it's like being outraged they killed Batman in Superman: Red Son [/Geek hipsterism]

The vast majority of them in one, horrible, stupid book.

But the new Spiderman, Miles Morales, fucking owns.

While on vacation I read this book: Was Superman a Spy?: And Other Comic Book Legends Revealed (http://www.amazon.com/Was-Superman-Spy-Legends-Revealed/dp/0452295327/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1321174136&sr=8-1)

From a leftist standpoint the highlight of the book was all the anecdotes about how decisions made in the industry almost always come down to marketing and financial choices. In several of the stories main protagonists were killed off or brought back into an existing storyline that writers had plotted and planned long before in order to tie-into a marketing scheme by the company or make room for stories that mirror something going on in the television or movie version of the franchise.

Capitalism rules everything around me, C.R.E.A.M. get the money, dollar dollar bill y'all.

Does Marvel even still run the Earth-616 Spider-Man comics anymore?
