I assume the overall message is that capitalism needs to be diluted into a sort of democratic socialism? Or does the film have no message other than "technology will be the death of humanity"?

There is a line in it where one of the bad guys says something like 'his crime wasn't stealing time, it was giving it away'. Which rather puts the question in terms of Robin Hood figures and bandit expropriations, rather than social democracy.

I am not talking about robin hood.Rich people can buy time live for ever with all the luxuries. poors are living short lives while working hard to keep rich men happy.
They are trying to survive by helping rich.:D

I've noticed this genre gaining popularity. The big bad corporations are using you with no sense of remorse or humanity. They don't really propose an alternative, only state that unbridled capitalism is bad. They also hint that no amount of government regulations will keep corporations in check. Not communist propaganda but defiantly anti-capitalist. I haven't read much of Marx yet, but I think I heard somewhere that he said the first step in the revolution was for the proletariat to realize what was happening. Once the working class became aware of itself they would see the need fr a revolution. Leaves me wondering (hoping) for revolution, but still I can't shake the feeling that at most it'll turn into some stare down where the government pretends to work for the people and put on a show of putting corporations in their place, only to have nothing change.

capitalism is good for elite rich class. It makes class difference.capitalism produces rich masters & poor workers. it nothing more than masters & paid slaves. In capitalism where is human dignity.?
In rich capitalist countries, you may get few more bucks from your masters. But there is no dignity for you.In poor capitalism, you may not get any bucks or dignity.
Even in so called socialism , we saw brutal masters against working class. We need better alternative. Not like chinese communism.

I watched this movie last night and I have to say I greatly enjoyed it. Indeed, very anti-capitalist. The films certainly can resonate with people right now considering the economy, because it has many sociological concepts that are true in our own society. Although the plot is a bit ambitious, the world presented in the movie is nearly identical to our own other than the fact everything is measured in time rather than capital. If you are a communist, I see no reason why you wouldn't like this movie, even if it is more anti-capitalist than pro-Marxist. There is one line in the movie that really sticks out, when time is stolen from the rich: "it isn't stolen if it was already stolen!" A true Marxist talking point :D Love it.

Movies like these have always been made. I don't think it's a sign of the imminence of revolution.
