View Full Version : There comes Poland
Triple A
11th November 2011, 21:43
Thirty people were injured, including nine policemen, and more than 150 were arrested as nationalist and leftist protesters clashed with police on Friday during a march commemorating Poland's 93rd Independence Day.
'Hooligans' threw rocks and bottles at police, slightly injuring nine policemen, as several thousand marched in the capital, said Maciej Karczynski of the Warsaw police.
Police arrested more than 150 people, including members of leftist groups, after they attacked officers during the marches. The violence reportedly broke out when police tried to stop skirmishes between nationalist and leftist groups.
The march was organised by far-right organisations, including the All Polish Youth group. Around 10,000 people took part, organisers said.
Various left-wing organisations had said they would hold rallies and block the nationalists' march, calling the groups 'fascists'.

It was expected that people from all over europe would be there:
The Alliances website features leaflets in English and German, with Siempre Antifascista and Antifascist Left Berlin, German organisations considered extremist and violent, urging support for the anti-March action. In Berlin, Stuttgart, Rostock and several other German cities, anarchists have organised informational meetings under the slogan of Lets block a Nazi march in Warsaw.
German leftist extremists are promising a repeat of Dresden, where their clashes with neo-Nazis on the anniversary of the Allied bombings of the city have become the largest street riots in Germany in years. A year ago, over 10,000 people stood on the anarchists side and several hundred were wounded on both sides of the barricade.
Germany is the bastion of European anarchists. But the Polish antifascists are counting most of all on fighters from the East. Anarchists from Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia are considered the toughest warriors, because their daily bread is opposing rightwing extremists, who in those countries operate more like terrorist organisations than just bands of street thugs.

Guerrilla warfare
In their activities there are no rules. What matters is the purpose. The rightist ultras have no scruples, attacking anyone who doesnt fit their image of the true Pole. Likewise we accept all means that can change this. Handing out flowers wont cure anyone of fascism, argues an Antifa member known as Rot.
In eastern europe fascists arent street thugs like in the west they are mafias.

A quote to make people happy:
Among the injured was Patryk Bartoszewski, a 19-year-old observer who had crouched down to take photos of the clashes when a man in black kicked his camera into his face. Bartoszewski stood on the side of a street holding an ice pack to his bleeding face as he waited for an ambulance.
Bartoszewski was later taken to a hospital where he awaited treatment alongside two far-right activists — one who was attacked by a German anti-fascist protester and the other whose hand was injured after he forgot to throw firecrackers he was holding.

Great photos. This is awesome. I'm always happy to see leftists take to the streets... especially in opposition to fascists.
That first picture - is anyone else reminded of The Karate Kid? I mean the original, 1984.

Now I feel stupid.
But my comment about The Karate Kid still stands.

Well most people do because in Europe a lot of nazi and fascist groups have copied the black block outfit because they try to attract they 'frustrated youngsters' just like most antifa used to do. And it kinda works for them aswell because they do attract some of them through subcultural hardcore/metal scenes
In Poland the situation is really difficult, most antifascist are a bit nationalistic they claim to be antinazi anticommunist because of the communist occupation during the cold war. There are a lot of antinazi Polish patriot hooligans who will fight the nazi/fascists but they might just as easily attack 'red' antifascists.
Some friends of mine and me where planning to go to the antifascist protests in Warsaw but we lacked the money (we're unemployed working class heroes due to the economy) but I'm allready looking forward to the demonstration in Dresden! It'll be a reall party just like the last 3 years!! I'm sorry for my enthousiasm but I just can't wait! :cursing::drool:

They are not fascists or nazis, they are simply very brutal hooligans, that was enjoying clashing with police.
In last year the anti-fascist blockade was overtaken by some coward liberals and Zionists that exploited a number of heroic leftists and anarchists for your own policy. E.g. the liberal journalist Seweryn Blumsztajn wrote on 5 th November 2010 in "Gazeta Wyborcza" to the leftists: "forgot the Balcerowicz's mistakes!"

while its right that the fascists change their bonehead autfit to black block etc, somebody should remember that part of the antifa lifestyle itself originates in the hooligan ultra culture( the clothes). so those guys just wear what hooligans wear in poland...
and the hooligans in poland are 80/ 90 percent fascists, and those who are not, are still anticommunists. there are very less hooligans who are antifascists.
ps: yes, dresden will be awesome i think.

All football hooligans came togheter to this. Some of the fascists are angry at the hooligans because it was them who started the riots and have made the demonstration look bad.

many hooligans had their club colours displayed on the day, alternatively it could have been Serbian flag as there were some Serb fash there and in general Serbs have a lot of sympathy amongst Polish right wing wankers.

statement by the blockade organisers
Once again the extreme right milieus tried to march through Warsaw. Nationalists and neofascists from whole Poland and from abroad came to the capital city, supposedly to demonstrate patriotism. They left terrified Warsavians, injured police officers, destroyed pavement, burnt TV outside broadcast vans, devastated bus stops and cars.
Already at 9 am around 150 right wing hooligans with sticks can be seen in Trzech Krzyży square. Around 11:30 another group attacks people walking down Nowy Świat who resist them. Police intervenes. First neofascists are arrested, while antifascist are pushed into Krytyka Polityczna cultural centre belonging to a coalition partner of the Agreement.
A legal rally, Kolorowa Niepodległa and the antifascist blockade are constantly attacked by groups of neofascists armed with metal pipes. The outside broadcast van of TVN is aflame, cars belonging to Polsat and Polish Radio are destroyed, participants of the Independence March attack Russian embassy and Belweder. “Patriots” in Konstytucji Square pull out cobble stones and attack the police. Until late at night “patriotic” combat groups wander around the city hunting for people. The only safe place was the antifascist zone created at Marszałkowska street – created jointly by Kolorowa Niepodległa and the antifascist blockade. It is hard to imagine what could have happened had the “March of Devastation around Independence” actually marched through the city centre. We did not let it happen.
Now, the organizers of the March, ONR and Młodzież Wszechpolska, counting on the society's short memory, are trying to dissociate themselves from their criminal henchmen. If it was not for the destroyed city, terrorized and injured people, we would think it is funny. But the insolence and hypocrisy of the leaders of the extreme right has long since ceased to be funny. The organizers of the March of Independence invited and brought to Warsaw the most aggressive groups of people from whole Poland. Nationalist activists and football hooligans came to Warsaw in the very same buses. They also wreaked havoc together. A right wing populist - Janusz Korwin-Mikke – personally incited to violence!
Some media came to the extreme right wing's aid manipulating public opinion, encouraging aggression for weeks. How effectively! Havoc and terror from dawn to dusk – editor Ziemkiewicz, editor Struzik – are these people your patriots?
We have warned for years – the radical right poses a more and more serious threat to this country! It seemed obvious that the long list of victims of nationalists and neofascists and racist attacks of last two months should suffice to understand the danger. Apparently not. Maybe today's events – the day of independence which was used to display brutal power – will help the public opinion, journalists, the authorities of Warsaw, and most of all the society to understand that the problem is serious and it needs to be counteracted.
Until it happens, we, antifascists of November 11 Agreement, will take to the streets, make blockades, stand and sit across the streets shouting “no pasaran!” We can see no other option – if not us, then who?
We would like to thank all Warsavians and everybody who came to Warsaw to stand in the way of the Brownshirt plague. It required a lot of sacrifice and a lot of determination. You were great! We will push them out of the city centre once again. Let's put an end to fascist marches under the cover of historical events! No pasaran!

Anarchist Skinhead
21st November 2011, 12:50
It wasn't "antifa" blockade that was 10 000 people strong, but anti-fascist gathering nearby and big part of that gathering never took part in any blockades. Last year biggest liberal daily "Gazeta Wyborcza" supported the action, really trying to take control over it and steer it into nice, liberal directions with no confrontations. Then after that they withdrew their support when it became apparent for them that they cannot control the movement and also support for militant actions is bigger than they thought. This year they were appealing to people to stay at home then ;)
So yeah, this year there were less people, but they were definitely all there to blockade. Less quantity, more quality I would say ;)
Besides probably some people simply got scared off, with media whipping up histeria about riots for weeks before the demo.

1. There was large presence of football hooligans of various teams- suprisingly there weren't any interaction amongst them they were united.
2. Major riots were amongs football hooligans and police there weren't big fights between facists and police.
3. Media's were heavily attacked two liberal TV TVN 24 TV cars were burned out.
4. The major counterprotest against facists was organized by liberals. Presence of left (trots etc.) was really small. There was a lot of Antifa much of them not anarchist just antinazi Oi's
5. German Antifa was mainly arrested before riots around 1 km from the scene of the riots.
6. Media"s manipulated the view. German Antifa was compared using the war sentiment to facists even my mother sayied after watching tele that "german facists attacked Poles on their national celebration" (she is not well informed about polish politics).
7. I wouldn't either stand with facists either with liberal counterprotest either with antifacists that me as communist will treat the same as facist thugs.

As a matter of fact many of the people in Antifa groups there were anarchists. And groups organising blockade were not only liberal (although many of them are)
