This situation was pretty fucked. I'm pretty bruisy this morning, as are most of my friends. I've never seen tear gas on a university campus before.

I'm sorry to hear that this happened, and hope you heal up alright.

I'm not that surprised - the SPVM (Montréal police) are known for being pretty awful - but the symbolism of it happening right on the campus of McGill is pretty stark.

Heard that on the cbc radio channel.

The bastards apparently also kicked and maced a teached who was happening to be there, he wasnt even part of the protest.

the cops PR guy who was interviewed by the cbc was an insurefable cock.
He basically said it was the teacher fault if he was beaten and maced beccause he had no buisness witnessing the event, he said that the news where there to do that, not him.

Montreal cops are dicks, its just weird beccause Quebec city is far more conservative than montreal.

In the US it seems that its Democrats, especially liberal Dems, who are the most repressive towards the Occupy movement.

Are you serious? At Kent State, Ohio here in the US in 1970 the National Guard used live ammunition against students for protesting the Vietnam war. 4 were killed, and iirc one was paralyzed for life.

No, I mean I've never personally witnessed it. Of course it happens. I've also never seen the police murder anyone, but that happens on a regular basis too.

Also, tear gas on university campuses in Québec is rare, at least in recent history (so, for example, as far as I know, there haven't been riot police on McGill's campus since 1969). In Toronto, tear gas had never really been used until the G20.

So, yeah, this isn't Kent State. I didn't and wouldn't say it was.

Le Rouge - il y avait un manif devant le bureau d'administration de l'université, pour appuyer l'occupation là. Quelques centaines de personnes du plus grand manif y sont allés.

Hey the demo you are planning at your campus, you just might want to have some respirators(and swim goggles)/gas masks handy. keep them in a back pack or something so no one freaks out.
