I am searching for books, articles, etc. that provide instruction on the security/recon aspect of protests and social movements for a historical analysis of Occupy.

Books that provide methods to gather intelligence and recon on what moves the police are planning against the protesters before they execute them so that the security/recon task force can provide the intelligence to the protest leaders to change strategies accordingly.

Same thing for background intell on legislation being passed at the city level to make protesting more difficult to plan accordingly.

Also gather intelligence on who the police officers are, their names, to be able to provide them misinformation to lead their intelligence teams down the wrong direction.

Basically how to counter a "COINTELPRO".

Is this kind of stuff legal, or is it in a gray area? It is an academic interest.
