Okay so massive tuition protests today in Quebec. Essentially they're raising tuition by over 75% in the next 5 years I believe.

Here's an article on the main event.

I'm not sure on details, but at some point after a bit of the protest broke off and went into the McGill Campus to the administration building.
At some point riot police were called in, tear gas used, pepper spray, people arrested.

I very strongly doubt there was violence from those in the building.

Here is a quick video

And a twitter feed for the local paper which should keep you updated if you're interested. I'll try to keep it updated as well.

There should be an article coming out very soon.

The McGill campus has had alot of strike activity since the beginning this year. Non academic workers have been on strike for months, admin abusing it's powers, lots of protests, and now this. Madness.

Question to go with the tuition hikes topic, should all post secondary education be free?

Yes, education on all levels should definitely be free and everyone should be free to be educated. Privitisation of education, in my opinion, leads to a system based more upon an administration desiring profit from the students instead of educating them.

I've been protesting such changes in the UK recently but that seems insignificant in comparison to the student protests in Chile which have been going on for nearly a year. Fight it, comrade!

The City University of New York is poised to raise tuition nearly 50% over the next 5 years, but it's still friggin' tough to organize anything here.

Yeah, all education should be free.
