Barefoot running is running while barefoot—without wearing any shoes on the feet. Running in thin-soled, flexible shoes, often called minimalist running, such as moccasins is biomechanically related to running barefoot, but alters sensory feedback from the plantar mechanoreceptors. Running in modern running shoes is quite different from barefoot running.

Never tried it, but I've heard it is good for you.

I'm sure we've all tried barefoot running as children.

Get some vibram five finger shoes if you want, they will help pad your feet and protect them. I use them for lifting, fucking amazing shoes man.

I run barefoot and with the vibrams. I recommend running both ways to everyone.

cool. unfortunately i'm pretty sure vibrams, even if they exist in brazil, are horribly expensive items, so i guess i'll have to try barefoot lol. do you guys run on asphalt and sidewalk? i've seen pictures but i'd figure it'd cut up your feet pretty bad

I think it would be better to run on grass. Running on hard surfaces with no support can mess up your knees. Plus asphalt can get really hot.

I'd totally do this if I did not fear the likes of heroine needles in the city. :(

Running barefoot is good for avoiding heelstriking. Just do it briefly at intervals in your runs to remind yourself of proper foot positioning, then plunk the shoes back on. There's a reason shoes were invented. Just make sure that your shoes don't force you into a heelstriking gait, maintain a little bit of barefoot, and you'll be good!

I've got the characteristic gigantic family big toe so barefoot running is hardly something for me. It increases my shoesize 2 sizes (european) above the rest of the foot.
When I was a kid I would routinely leave a trail of blood on the asphalt on the way to the house after running and getting the big toe caught on the asphalt and dragging it along for a full step.
