I must admit, I have close to no understanding of the various guerrilla warfare tactics employed by both people Mao and Guevara, and more modern examples, and would love to get some kind of basic introduction. :D

I don't really know what you're asking for, or how closely this walks the line of acceptable discussion on here.

Check out the Mini-manual of the Urban Guerrilla:

Obviously it's on urban guerrilla warfare but some of it will apply to the guerrilla warfare we're used to hearing about.

Now, this is exactly what I'm talking about.

The most successful guerrilla campaign was carried out by Yugoslav Partisans so read up on them. Also, study the strategies and tactics of the IRA, Viet Cong, and the Iraqi insurgency.

Guerrilla warfare is basically hit and run attacks, with the number one goal being to demoralize and psychologically destroy the enemy. You know you cannot win in open warfare so you pick the indirect methods. it revolves around the idea of picking your battles. Choosing when and where to fight the enemy.
Read "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu and you will see how it's strategies can be applied to smaller groups.

Sometimes I wonder if urban guerrilla warfare is something applicable at all, from a political point of view, there must be a certain level of mass support for any armed struggle, that is why national-liberation movements like the IRA, the Partisans or the Palestinian resistance, usually have no problem of building up their support among the population, but when it comes to movements with strictly political aims, the bourgeoisie usually easily isolates them from public opinion.

Also, I have seen the military efficiency of urban guerrilla warfare been questioned before.

Mao has a pretty good manual on guerrilla war and it is still used by the US Military Special Operations Command and the like. I think it is on MIA too.

You could just do what every weekend warrior does and go paint balling. And read Che's Guerrilla Warfare (which is admittedly, quite interesting).

I wouldn't trust the guide for converting a shotgun into a mortar launcher using a broom handle and a grenade though

Plant bomb, wait for troops to walk by, blow the bomb up, engage with small arms, plant a secondary bomb for when reinforcements arrive, then hide in the shadows.

It's asymmetrical warfare, in which ambushes; assassinations and etc. are the most effective form of attack. It's mainly psychological too, when the South Armagh sniper in Northern Ireland was active, British soldiers were shit scared to walk the streets. From what I've heard from veterans, many refusing to patrol and accept disciplinary action for refusing too.

o well this is ok I guess
