No way I'm lettin' this great post of mine from the last thread sink into oblivion:

This hardcore feminism here rob, not the softcore stuff you are used to.
It doesn't sound very appealing. Unless they talk about getting nekkid and soapin' each other up in the shower. Do they do any of that?

Sometimes I think I'm a lesbian trapped in a man's body.

BTW, Why do you go over there? You oughta move down south, for real. It's too hot down here for all that angry political and radical feminist "I'm so mad now I could KILL EVERYBODY AND I MEAN IT GODDAMMIT FUCKING MEN AND THEIR INSTITUTIONAL RACIAL HOMOPHOBIC SEXIST NORMATIVELY ENTRENCHED OPPRESSION!!!! ARRGGGGHHHH!!! GOD HOW I HATE THEM!!!!!"

Just mow the lawn, sit on the porch with a beer and wave to the deputy sheriff as he cruises past on his way to the Dairy Queen for a double cheeseburger and tater tots.

"Yeah, gimme a lil' more ketchup fo' mah onion rings, hon."

"Hon??? Did you call me 'hon' you sexist pig PRICK!!!???? ARRRGGGHHHHH I HATE YOU AND I'LL SUE GODDAMMITTTT!!!!"

She got fired after that and moved to Portland.

I have been down south Rob and it is very nice. The problem is they all have a terrible sense of fashion. They all dress like 70 year old men. A fashion guru such as myself cannot be around such novices for an extended period of time. But yea I don't think feminism is as common there to be honest which is nice.

Well, we're all men and we're all at least 70, so waddya expect?
The hip guys all moved to San Fran in '66. The rest of us thump the Bible, pick lint off our Sans-a-Belt double knit pants and pick our teeth over to the General Store. And we have deep discussions about life:

"Junior?"

"Hmmm?"

"When you drank, does yore tongue burn?"

"I dunno. I ain't ne'er been drunk enuff to light it."

We had a girl what looked like that who come into the General Store and started complainin' that Dialectical Materialism was "non-sense." You know what? We did not run her off.

That's the difference between the General Store and Revleft.

I sez to her, sez I,

"Fetch me 'nuther cold beer and tell me more about this Dye-liquory Material Whatchy ma-call-it, hon."

And that's when the trouble started.

Robert
9th November 2011, 03:58
Well, the short version is that there was this hardcore marxist here named Rosa Luxembourg, I think it was, and she had spent LITERALLY YEARS writing these LONG-ass monographs criticizing the concept of "dialectical materialism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dialectical_materialism)". You couldn't even mention it without her launching into a long, snarky attack on you, citing her own work in support of her arguments.

Here's a link to her stuff: http://anti-dialectics.co.uk/ It's kinda monotonous, but she acted like the whole future of revolution depended on everyone understanding that dialectical materialism was nonsense. She made a reasonable case for it too, though obviously I think communism was doomed anyway, DM or no DM.

A short definition which may or may not be valid (some commies go apeshit if you define it "wrongly", others if you mention it AT ALL because they claim it has no more foundation in reality than the Abominable Snowman): The basic idea of dialectical materialism is that every economic order grows to a state of maximum efficiency, while at the same time developing internal contradictions or weaknesses that contribute to its decay. (says wiki)

Anyway she was a big swingin' dick in commie circles, knew Marx and physics and math and philosophy backwards and forwards (or pretended to, anyway) and had built up her own clique of fawning syncophantic followers, but she got on the nerves of half the other commies because she was always needling the hell out of them. The capitalists like me and Bud just sat looking on, enjoying the debate and amazed that commies would tear each other apart like that in public when there are so few of them to begin with. We flattered her openly.

Anyway, she finally got banned basically for being a pain in the ass! I thought it was the funniest thing in history because, truth be known, people like me and Bud mostly were happy to agree with her: "Yep, DM sounds like a lot of bullshit to us, too!" Of course she wouldn't want us for allies, but it was perverse that the capitalists seemed to understand her complaints about DM better than most of her commie comrades, those who banned her, anyway. We got along with her just fine.

So now re-read that post about the general store and "go get me a beer" and you'll see.

If I was a bit younger and lived in Ohio I'd come too... :D

You need to get a good touring bike, not a racing bike or mountain bike. You might want to consider a mixed-terrain bike if you are going to go off road. You'll need a spare tyre, repair kit, oil, spoke key, chain key and some maintenence tools. You also might consider some of the dynamo chargers you can get these days for your phone etc. Oh... a compass and a map too!

I really really doubt Bud understood any of her arguments, he was just with her because other socialists thought she was wrong.

I personally don't agree with Dialectical materialism the way some Marxists do, you can use it to explain certain things, but using it as a under pinning philosophy will get you problems, I don't think Marxism is dependant at all on Dialectical Materialism, considering most of his analysis of Capitalism can be verified independant of that philosophy just by examining the mechanics of capitalism.

Robert

Some of you may remember my saying back in July (woah, long time ago) that I was going to write an essay, 'On Liberation and Autonomy.' Well...after a great many delays, it is now finished. Completed. Didn't quite take the course I expected it to (which luckily means there are lots of ideas left over for future essays! :)), and it ended up somewhat longer than I expected, at 12.000 words. I'm also not entirely confident that I've wrapped it up all that well, it might be a bit rushed on the last few pages. Therefore I might rewrite/expand that bit.

Anyway, anybody who's interested in reading my first draft...you should probably PM me. I won't post it here because it went all crazy and spiritual and would probably therefore be seen as hardcore preaching (hah!) and also I can't think of anywhere to upload the PDF apart from on my blog domain, and I don't feel like posting that on the public forums...

So yeah, if you a) have a strange desire to read 23 glorious pages of incomprehensible crap(!!!); b) don't mind copious use of Hebrew and assumptions that the reader already know the ins-and-outs of Kabbalah; c) aren't some kind of annoying dogmatic type who flies into extreme rage at the mere mention of the name of non-Marxists; and d) have literally nothing better to do with your life (I can only assume a lot of you fall into that category)...well, drop me a line, baybay! :thumbup1:

You might want to invest in some puncture-proof tyres. It's boring just to stay on the road all the time- by off road I also mean sort of dirt tracks/farm tracks and stuff too.

I don't know what makes of bike you are looking at in the US- but a couple of things to consider, good supension, comfortable saddle, and also- I personally wouldn't go for the "drop handlebars" if I were planning a long tour- uncomfortable and designed more for speed in my opinion. You might consider doing a few searches for the "hybrid" bikes as they get called too.

Well at least you have bothered to answer. I did notice he was a little more provocative recently, but I figured that was just the confidence he had with his virtual friends, and the joking around with people here was part of it- although his sense of humour could be a bit crappy at times, O think he meant well in his own way and I don't think he was genuinely malicious or anything- sometimes he did make poignant observations too. Regardless, I don't think it was fair to brand him as a racist and I am sure he is not a racist IRL either. But anyway, alea iacta est.

Regardless, I don't think it was fair to brand him as a racist and I am sure he is not a racist IRL either. But anyway, alea iacta est.

Would you feel better if I change the reason for ban to questionable ethic/racial portrayal? I think that fits better anyway.

No, because if you want my honest opinion it's bullshit, he should have been told first that it was upsetting people and then if he had refused fair enough. But it's not up to me and I don't want to get into
a fight about it...

What does this have to do with the subject at hand? I suggest you read the faq, LeRouge, I'm not going to spoon feed the rules to you.

Please understand I am not trying to pick a fight with you in particular, or anyone else, but....

...if the Admin/Mod "disappear", like the so-called moderator/admin of this forum, let messages go unchecked for weeks and then come waltzing in with guns blazing like some kind of sheriff then it doesn't help the situation.

It would also help the level of maturity of the forum in general if the Admins/Mods would not have such an arrogant attitude to the people in OI.

We have mods and admins in this forum constantly, whether or not Jazz is here everyday or not. psycho has been working overtime in this thread and its fairly new.

There was no guns blazing. This has been a LONG time in the making. But this was very over the top, a newbie would be banned for the same thing and Bud KNOWS better than to come on this board profiling a black man. FFS, dude, no.... its so wrong on so many counts.

On the subject of profile pictures, can somethimg be done about a certain member who likes to mimic other people's profile pictures as an indirect form of provocation and trolling?

Another suggestion- can it be made that OI-ers can at least post in the troll alert thread and perhaps members' forum. It's completely unfair and also does not help the board that they cannot.

Bud KNOWS better than to come on this board profiling a black man.So many questions. Starting with ...

What does "profiling a black man" even mean? Do you mean "depicting a black man in a negative way?" Because that's entirely different.

There are other in-crowd users who have had black guys in their avatar.

Who was the guy in the picture? Was he making fun of the guy? Did he maybe deserve it? Of the entire race? Race doesn't exist, and Bud knows this.

What did Bud Struggle ever do to insinuate in the slightest that he is racist?

Some of those voting to ban him surely had mixed feelings about this.

Why couldn't he have received an infraction as I did once for using a word that was "prejudiced"?

COTR, why you are engaging us in the discussion at all if you think the racism it's so clear and that the punishment just?

It isn't too late to change your mind. It would be big of you to do so. I'm asking that you all re-convene and just put the matter (my motion for reconsideration, not the original decision), to a vote.

You know that Bud made positive contributions to the board in many of his thousands of posts.

This is wrong.

Thanks,
R

Discriminatory Language

As this is an internet message board, it is impossible for us to know the intent behind posts. Accordingly, we take all members' comments at their face value.

Because of this, any use of discrmiinatory or oppressive language is not permitted. This includes all obvious instances of derogatory slurs related to race, ethnicity, sex, orientation, or any other immutable characteristic, as well as any derogatory use of applicable descriptive terms like "gay" or "Jew".

I am going to graduate with a business degree (Basically with a specialty in managing inventory and purchasing with basic accounting), but I want to open my own shop becasue I don't want to work for a corporation, and I did some research and perhaps jewelery is the way to go.

1. It is basically recession proof, as people look to jewelery as a safe asset which retains value.
2. I can take a lot of shit from snobs and I am pretty good at talking with rich people
3. It can start online and then when it is time to transition to a brick and mortar shop, the store can be small.
4. It does not take a long time to learn the trade compared with the other major trades, and even though the average salary is far lower, the earning potential is a lot higher, since the markup in jewelery is insane.
5. Working with your hands is better for you mentally than working in a cubicle all day. Also, being your own boss is better for you mentally as well.
6. I have the motivation and the work ethic to do it.

Anyways, I have been giving the idea of becoming a jewelerWatch your language.

It's a good idea. Diamonds may be about to take off like gold did. You need to study the market and see who is doing well and why.

There are jewel speculators who do great, I'm sure. Bud's got connections in New York. Why don't you ask Bud?

But there are also small time strip mall jewelers who polish bracelets and change watch batteries all day and live very modestly. Also note that these are family-owned jewelry businesses that are going to promote family, not you, if you get a job there.

You might think about gunsmithery too. Honestly, you sound more like a gunsmith than jeweler. There are millions of guns and they always need repair, and gun guys have money (or they'll get it;)). You gotta have fine motor control.

If you say something racist, and I call you a racist, thats not be being "politically correct," and its not you being "anti-PC" or whatever way you want to try make yourself a champoin of free speach by lying and being obnoxious, it makes you a racist.

But its not like his banning is going to withhold the board from anything substancial, all he did was troll, I don't mind stupid arguments, but when your doing the same thing over and over again, ignoring responses, derailing threads, doing nothing but ridicule over and over again real people doing positive things, and repeat strawmen its just tiring.

If that's the case then I'd imagine he'd have more than one infraction

We don't infract for racism. I'd also like to add here that continued 'fluttering around the edges' and 'intentionally seeking out grey areas in order to get away with an offensive message' is considered trolling and as far as I'm concerned it's as bad if not worse than engaging in the behavior out of ignorance. Also a reminder that this is a leftist forum and not a reactionary pisspot that 'must serve everyone equally'. This is not the 'all inclusive occupy movement'. The 'all inclusive occupy movement' even dropped their 'all inclusiveness' because it didn't make sense.

If COTR is done with the subject, maybe Psycho or RedAnarchist will speak to this:

Was my request to reconsider the banning of Bud Struggle denied?
I know I have no stroke, but was it presented to the board or whatever Revleft's deliberative body is?

There are lots of things that are "not allowed." Banning wasn't the only option.

We do not allow Racism. Bud clearly knew the rules of the board as he always liked to challenge them by provoking people and pushing things just enough as to not get banned. It was the general concensus of the Mod & Admin team that he went too far this time.

I am getting fed up with these one-trick pony socialists. "You're a reactionary shitbag, gtfo" is such a boring argument. We, the left, have no need of it.

It's also illogical; you're reactionary so you're wrong. Obvious fallacy there.

Actually... they tend to be 2 trick ponies; they also tend to have a fetish for punishment. So basically; "I can't hear your complaints over the sound of my whip cracking."

/venting :D

It's even more obnoxious when someone follows that up with "Read more Lenin."

Ann Coulter is the typical angry white female who has never experienced love in her entirelife and is just bitter, she's a dispicable/hateful human being, and when you brake it down, is like Rush, i.e. Just a sad, sad and ultimately self-hating soul. I think psychologists can learn a lot studying the likes of ann-coulter or Rush, that type of conservative.

Lenin DID have some good insights into finance capital and imperialism, but that has nothing to do with the way the USSR was handled.

Three months ago I was the father of a daugher for a minute....or perhaps a second. tHree months in prgenancy....thats when she was born. The mother is somebody I love more than anything in the world. And she only told me aboutb it last weekl....because she was too afaraid to tell me tahg she panicked and used drruigs to calm her nerves which then made her miscarriage.

The slly giurl.

She was so upset she was preganht. Not because she doesn;t want to but becaus eshe didn;t want me to come to her because she though I would do so becvause of the child and not because I wnated ot be with her nad becayse she wqas afaraid I would not be happy when I would come to Russia. aND she was afaraid she would not be agood mother or wife :(:(:(:( wtf???

I don;t care about any of that. I care about her. Fcuk she knows me so much better tha this! :crying: We know what we are thinking before we do...and it blows me away that she got scared for no reason. The girl is an anarcho feminist,...and she already has a daughter...qand all of the sudden she feels she is so insecure....and the only thing she thinks about is my happyness. And it is kkilling me. Because this wqas soo fuckong unnecesaary. If she only would have told me!!!! :crying::crying::crying:

I am so upset she was afraod to tel me. And I am so upset she used drrdgs again. And it is not like I giave her reason to be afraid. It was her that ende the taqle because she thought it would not owrk because she has a violent streak,...and becayse I don;t want to move to Russia and hse doesn't want to move to holland. PLus her previous drug addiction...well...not so previous apparantly...but at that time it was.

:( :( :(

So now she is in rhab. I gotb her into a program. In Russia. And she is doing well. three days in...buyt she is trying so hard. She only escaped from her room once :) To call me :) And nobody got hurt...yet.... I know she can do it because she did it before. This girl is soo fuckinbg strong! :)

Incidentally this is the same girl as the one who got beat up by the KKE.

At least unlike the Tea Party, I don't want to stamp on the heads of all those "below" me in order to improve my own situation. Shouldn't that be a more important consideration than my personal covetousness?

A Public Service Announcement: How Lady Catherine Got the Owwies

Just a few minutes ago, my printer in my office had run out of paper. When I went to refill it, I noticed that my giant husband(okay, okay, I'm just short) had put the reams on a shelf over my head. Now, I'm not foolhardy! I'm not about to reach waaay up and try to pull a couple heavy things of paper off that shelf! That'd just be silly!

So instead, I brought one of the rolling chairs over, climbed up on it, grabbed the paper, and promptly slid the chair out from under me, landing on my shoulder which is now in a bit of pain. I tell you this story not only for your pity and sympathy, but also to warn you of two dangers. The first is rolling chairs.

Uncounted accidents happen every year because of chairs with wheels on the bottom. These silent sufferers may have been injured by rolling across the office rolls and smashing heavily into a piece of furniture, or they may have suffered life-altering toe bruises as a careless chair-rolling-person runs over their feet. Please join me in my efforts to have all rolling chairs come with a warning label, informing the potential roller how dangerous they can be.

Secondly, I'd like to warn you of the dangers of tall husbands...I mean people. They put things in high places and never notice you until they walk into you. Also, they blame you for being too short!

This has been a public service announcement from the Committee for Awareness of Chair Hazards and Oblivious Tallies.

By order of,

You could say the same thing to a person living in North Korea, just work hard dude and you can be a rich military officer or something.

But yeah, conservatives are generally troubled people, generally the economic ones are the worst, many of the social conservatives are juts religious and scared of things they don't know, many of the economic ones the "the poor are just lazy, and hte rich deserve everything" guys, are troubled, excibit A: Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter, Rush's self loathing and constant desire to raise himself up by pushing people down is transparent, the same with Ann Coutler, she juts reaks of bitterness and a woman that has never had a meaningful relationship.

If one doesn't realize hegemony exists... how could one ever free themselves from it?

This is the easy position to understand. If everyone at least learned about it, the world would be (imo) far better served.

The hard times come in with the person who has learned about it, but remains willfully ignorant. How do you deal with that?

Also; why does it seem like those who think the world needs elites always consider themselves a part of it... even if they are clearly not?

Anyone else watch The Big Bang Theory? I just got into it...:tt1:

I need to find a new show to latch onto anyway. The Office won't be around much longer, and I only started watching it when Lost ended.

BBT is one of my favorite shows, bro :D

Anyway; so I met this girl the other day, and I haven't stopped thinking about her. I made a promise to my heart not too long ago that I would not let feelings go unsaid any longer. In the past I would have just broke that promise.

But I feel I have had an awakening recently. I am no longer attached to my expectations; which means I do not fear the consequences. Long story short, I told her. I'm proud of myself :tt1: I thought I seen a look from her to me... and I hope I am right in that. But, if not, at least I tried ;)

Can the GOP find ANYONE to run for president beyond the intelligence of a ninth grader?

JUDY WOODRUFF: Do you view China as a potential military threat to the United States?

HERMAN CAIN: I do view China as a potential military threat to the United States.

JUDY WOODRUFF: And what could you do as president to head that off?

HERMAN CAIN: My China strategy is quite simply outgrow China. It gets back to economics. China has a $6 trillion economy and they’re growing at approximately 10 percent. We have a $14 trillion economy — much bigger — but we’re growing at an anemic 1.5, 1.6 percent. When we get our economy growing back at the rate of 5 or 6 percent that it has the ability to do, we will outgrow China.

And secondly, we already have superiority in terms of our military capability, and I plan to get away from making cutting our defense a priority and make investing in our military capability a priority, going back to my statement: peace through strength and clarity. So yes they’re a military threat. They’ve indicated that they’re trying to develop nuclear capability and they want to develop more aircraft carriers like we have. So yes, we have to consider them a military threat.

[emphasis mine]

For someone who's supposedly so intelligent, he seems to have a serious blind spot when it comes to marshalling the facts. Seriously, what kind of Presidential contender doesn't know that China has had nuclear capability for decades now?

Yeah, but Kaczynski's batshittery (is that a word? I hope it is. Spellcheck says it ain't. Well, it is now. Language is usage!) resulted in him moving out to live in the woods while sending mailbombs to blow up in peoples' faces. From his point of view, his only real problem was getting caught. Herman Cain's batshittery, on the other hand, results in sophomoric taxation plans, babbling like an idiot in his attempt to become one of the leading figureheads of a global hegemony, and in typical Republican fashion is involved in some kind of sexual scandal, although this time it's a heterosexual one.

I just found it kind of hard to make the connection, is all.
